I usually but not always design my own patterns. I have just finished a New York Beauty quilt in blues, yellows, and greens, using different fabrics from my stash in each of the 16 blocks. I wanted something quick to give my sister for an anniversary project. She doesn't always like the same things I do, so before I gave it to her, I asked her her true opinion. "Too much green" she said, so she didn't get the quilt. She didn't really want it anyway. At your 50th anniversary you don't really want another item anyway. So, I have another quilt to add to my quilt stash! It is a wall quilt, or an over the couch quilt. I got the pattern straight off EQ7.
For those of you who want to design your own but need a jumping off place, take any class on Quilt University taught by Dena Crain, one the world's best teachers. She has several different kinds of designing classes, and is an excellent teacher, really gives more than 100% if that is possible.
