Hello Becky

Could you please tell me where you saw the video on the tension? I also have a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4. I'm not very happy with it. It sews ok, but when it comes to FMQ it's hopeless. Thread comes off the takeup lever...thread nests underneath my quilt. Thread breakage. Mine is just over a year old. From what I've read on other sites/blogs etc apparently there is a new take up lever for this machine (Pfaff obviously realised there was an issue and took steps to correct it). I've yet to find out whether I will get it installed for nothing. I don't see why I should pay for Pfaff's problem. Must make a booking with my dealer soon! Cheers!

Becky,

I quilt on a long arm. Here is a tip to try concerning the thread cutter..... Resist the urge to pull your fabric away before the thread cutter finishes. Patiently wait until it is done and then remove the fabric and make sure you take a seam ripper or something and swipe it under the presser foot to loosen the top thread from the feed dogs. Then the next time you start you can get your fabric all the way under the presser foot.

Thanks for your reply Barbara. The factory sent me back a new machine because mine was defective. I tried using a 80/12 metallic needle and am having better luck this time. Every time I use the scissor feature, I have to rethread the machine, remove the bobbin and put it back in. If I do not do this, It will not sew right. The back is full of loops in I do not rethread the machine. I just saw the video on changing the tension so I will also try that. This machine is 3 times what I paid for my last pfaff and does not free motion nearly as nicely as my first pfaff. Barbara, do you do a lot of free motion quilting on your machine?

I have this machine and have not had any problems with it. It will be 2 years old in July.

Has anyone had problems with their machine. Mine is back to the factory with several problems when using the sensormatic feature. I love the features of the machine but it has not worked right since I bought it. This is the second time it has been sent back to the factory.
Thanks,
Becky Brawley
