TOPIC: Mitred Corners, Kaleidoscope Quilt

Prices for things shown on TQS 05 Nov 2009 10:15 #40345

I always check TQS Shoppe or Ricky's website if I want to buy either his products or the ones shown on TQS. Usually the price is the same or less than quilt stores etc. I like to support the lqs's in my area (except one but that is a different story) but since TQS is my guild and Ricky is my mentor and favorite quilter, I feel that supporting them is just as good especially if my pocketbook benefits too. I did not know where to put this blog.
So on Ricky's Kaleidoscope CD I bought it in the shop for 21.49 and on "Everything Quilts" it sells for 26.99. They just e mailed me their news letter and that was on the cover page. I did not know that it was selling somewhere else. We have to watch where we buy our quilting supplies to get the best deal.

Have you thought about using "Piecelique" to add the applique?

I have changed my border now so now I need to figure out how to 'insert' a green block in each corner...

Try applique on the top... then you do not have to insert it...

I believe in cheating when possible.

Thank you for caring! I did ask and was told if I knew of an inexpensive program to use on this site they would love to hear about it...I don't know. I haven't tried opening the closed caption on the DVD player but that could work...maybe! Have a nice day! I have changed my border now so now I need to figure out how to 'insert' a green block in each corner...

The greater issue is CLOSE CAPTION for hearing impaired quilters on DVDs and internet performance... Have you tried turning on your closed caption on your DVD player when you watch the DVD?

Maybe we should ask them to put closed caption on the DVDs they issue if there are none on their now? Hearing Impairment is a growing issue with more and more people....

Verlie, you can fold the border fabric at each corner to form a miter and then use the hand applique stitch along the miter. I learned this in a Sally Collins class. Just use a ruler to check the accuracy of your fold. I don't like to put in a miter with the machine and I'm going to use this method myself. BTW, your quilt is beautiful! Judy in Torrance

Thanks again Margo and I went to the sites...they say I need a new adobe update to view it but I know my adobe HAS been updated. I think I will just finish my quilt to the best of my ability and start the next one. By the time I reach the next border I am sure I will have received a response from Ricky or the staff on this site. It's so nice to know that help is not far away on this site. Have a great day! Thank you Margo...I checked it out and understand it but the glue? that scares me...and how, what stitch do you use after the glue? My mind says the only stitch that could put the folds together would be a zigzag... can you see my confusion? wish I could see someone sewing it after the glue....perhaps I am just confusing myself needlessly!

Are you familiar with Sharon Schamber's work? She is a winner of Best of Show in both Paducah and Houston. Her work is amazing and she used Elmer's Washable School Glue in all of her quilts. It washes out, but doesn't have to be removed, according to Sharon. Here is a link to her tutorial about corners.

If that link doesn't take you to the right page, go to her web site here:

and check out the "Free Area" for Mitered Corners

In one of the 300 ( I have the DVD) shows Ricky showed how to sew on a boarder with no piecing in the corner... INSET BOARDER... that might be the way go for this quilt. I have only done one small block using this method but I love it.
