Hi Aussiecroyden, I sew on an expressions 2 which I think is the same as yours. I have found that it quilts better with an Organ 75/11 or a Schmetz 80/12 needle and the tension between 2.5 and 3. I don't know if you know that the tension only changes when the presser foot is down. With my machine I have to work from 9 downwards and you can feel the tension changing as you go. I usually try a line of stitches at the different tensions until I have one that I am happy with. I have also found that my machine prefers Superior Bottom Line thread in bobbin. Of course if you are using a particularly thick thread in your needle then you will need a bigger needle. Hope this helps.

Hi, i used to quilt on a Pfaff, and found that I had to lower the top tension to 2 or less when i free motion quilted. From your description of what's happening, it might be that your top tension is set too high.

My suggestion is try to quilt very slow. Is the thread tension OK when it actually sews?

Hi
I am trouble with my quilting when I am trying to free motion. My problem is my machine with quilt along just fine and then it will be some stitches and leave a length of thread until it seems to connect with the bobbin thread again. It is so frustrating. I have recently had the machine serviced and I regually clean the fluff out the the machine. I have the same weight cotton on both top and bobbin. I am also using a quilting needle. Any ideas please?????

Cheers Jackie
