Your question is very timely, because I just found this wonderful QAYG (quilt as you go) tutorial on how to join the blocks. I think it's the best technique I've come across because it results in flat joined seams, not the lumpy bumpy seams that you get with other techniques. It would work great for a reversible quilt.
