Sorry, no link Wendy. He's a low-key, low profile kinda guy.

My family weren't particularly into singing, but it is great reading everybody else's stories with all this sunshine around here. Yesterday we had fog - what my Mum would describe as a 'misty, moisty morning', only it lasted all day :(

Well you are all bringing back memories for me too. Before the days when our kids had earphones permanently attached to their ears on their life-support machines (iPods) we always sang 'You Are My Sunshine' on car journeys followed by 'Catch a Falling Star' and other songs that we could easily sing with multiple harmonies. It was always great fun to see who would come up with a different harmony. As each child got older they would vary their contribution which would sometimes have us all in fits of laughter - if it was particularly free and improvisational. So thanks for reminding me of that everybody, happy memories.

I am loving all this warm remembering. It's cozy. Especially good since the temps in the low 30's for a couple of days this week is only a brief reprieve. Below freezing temps come back tomorrow and will hang around for a while longer. Good quilting weather.

"You are my sunshine my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey"......
What memories that song brings back of my darling father singing it to me, that would be about 70 years ago but I still remember it.
Thank you Wendy.
We could do with a bit of sunshine as it's a very dark dull day here in Woking.
Hope the sun is shining where ever you are.

How romantic Terrie. Have you a link for his version.

Rosemary and I sang 'Bring me Sunshine' Morecambe and Wise version to Lorna on the banks of Loch Lomond, I don't think she was impressed

Talking about that song stirs my heart...wistfully remembering my dad singing the " You are my sunshine" song to me and explaining what it meant. I think I was about 6 Y.O. Years later, I was very touched with Stevie Wonder's song ' You are the sunshine of my life..." ' ...the apple of my eye..etc ." wow!
We had it sung at our wedding, but with a different tune written by a friend who writes music. Same words. My sister said that she liked his version more than Stevie Wonder's!

Imagine that! :)

Love Stevie!

My dad used to always sing "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad". He added a little verse at the end that goes;

Oom pah, oom pah, oom pah pah. My pa's better than your papa. Oom pah, oom pah, oom pah pah. Strummin' on the old banjo.

My sisters and I loved it and still sing it together sometimes!

Wendy, You are our Sunshine! Thanks. I hope you sing that song loud enough for me to hear. Get DH some earplugs! :)

I'm always singing it. I did a little quilt at a class a long time ago with it written over an angel and took it into work to show some patients. One poor lady asked me for it to give to her carer and I couldn't say no, so that phrase always makes me smile.

I primarily made it for an art quilt challenge on Facebook but I'll give it to OH. I sing it to him often to cheer him up. Actually he hates hearing me sing
