Wow, Rita, your mother's quilt is really pretty. Somehow I missed the tutorial Rosemary posted and am so glad you made reference to it! What types of thread did you use on this one? Thanks for sharing your pictures and inspiring us!

Lovely Rita, I like that your back fabric is plainer so you can see all your quilting. You're getting as bad as Rosemary for fancy pieced backs

Rita,
You did an amazing job of making this quilt of orphan blocks. The various parts coordinate beautifully and tie everything together so well. Very well designed. And the quilting is just beautiful! Your mother will love it and will be so proud of you.

Rita, it looks like you and Heidi have really bonded. I can't believe you quilted it yourself, it looks professionally done. Great job. Judy

Wow Rita, your quilting is fabulous. The piecing is pretty nifty too, great looking quilt. Glad to have passed on the traditional technique for feathers that helps.

I just finished my first lap-quilt on Heidi (Bernina 750QE) and thought you might like to see it. This quilt is called 'Orphan'. It was made from orphan blocks from various classes and notions I took that didn't work out. In the end it has worked out just fine I think. The back was made from a panel I got at Ikea in the €1 bin. I had to piece it together to make it wide enough, but you can hardly see the joins. ;) I have washed and tumbled it dry and it's lovely and soft and crinkly. I will be giving this to my mother for her birthday. This winter she has needed something to throw over her legs on the coldest days, of which we have had too many. Lovely and warm and sunny today though.

BTW Rosemary, I used Lilian's method for drawing the feathers with a 1" circle and it worked really well. Thanks for that. :cheer:

Mother's Day. I think that is a very tough one to get right. Most of the time it's way over the top celebrating some sort of saint that I could never hope to be; therefore, succeeding in making me feel guilty for missing the mark. All of us who enjoy making a fuss over our loved ones liked to be fussed over in the same way and when it doesn't happen it can be very disappointing.
