I use Dropbox all the time to save quilt project patterns and knitting patterns because then when I am shopping I pull my iPad out of my purse and I have the materials list right at hand. It's handy bc often I see something for another project other than the one immediately at hand and I already have the pattern with me. That just might make it a little bit too convenient ($ drain) but I love it! Yeah, Dropbox.

Lotti, you saved me from making the explanations on Dropbox  . It's a wonderful feature.
Windows (Office) has a feature like that called Skydrive. The point is you can synchronize all your stuff to all your devices.

Dropbox: Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere. After you install Dropbox on your computer, any file you save to your Dropbox can be set up to automatically save to all your computers, your ipod, iphone, ipad or Android device, and even the Dropbox website.

I use Dropbox to share pictures, files and stuff for work. I can give certain people access to certain files or folders in many Dropbox. I can set it up to update and synchronize automatically, or I can just copy certain things I want to share, or that I just want to be able to access from on the go and from anywhere.

I am using Windows 8 and don't have any problems with it. I did have to ask how to maneuver as it doesn't load up exactly like XP or any other of the Windows start pages. Once you get used to it, it's just fine. If you have a smart phone and use apps at all, then you will probably not have any issues as it was designed to be used in the same manner.

Terri,
If you have Adobe Acrobat on your computer the .pdf file will download normally and you can open and save it. I've never heard of "dropbox" so figure it must be something used outside the U.S.

I don't know--the only forum threads I don't get notices on are the ones I have never posted on. They still show up as a new post but I don't get notification.

now, for me- the term 'dropbox' sounds very scary and criminal. I haven't tried that yet!

Now this is really off topic, but all of you know who are having problems with Windows 8. You could get a Mac. I love mine!

Thanks everyone for suggestion what to do about technical things. At the moment I use Firefox but I have chrome as well. Trouble is I have an old computer and it has XP. Hi Maureen -

I use Firefox on Windows XP, too, but didn't have any problem downloading Norma's PDF file. I, too, need a new computer but really, really, really don't want to use Windows 8. For now, I'm putting off the upgrade hoping that things will change (but knowing they won't and I'll have to bite the bullet at some point).

This doesn't help you figure out why yours didn't work, but at least lets you know that it can work without an upgrade.

I usually have no problem opening PDF files as I use them a lot so I don’t know what happened this time. Norma kindly sent me the file without going through the link, thank you Norma, and Lois said she saved it to her computer so I saved it to my documents and it worked that time, strange.

Margo, I went back in before I read all the posts and sure enough the icon was there. Thank you all for your help.

Lorchen I love the photos of you and baby Faye. My youngest grandson has just turned 24 but I can still remember the happiness and love I felt when I held my grandchildren in my arms for the first time. A wondrous feeling.

Ok--you would think that I could do all this in one post, but apparently the anticipation of seeing Eli is frying my brain. Just wanted to add that I sent a mug rug out for Nancy today. Rosemary, I am still working on yours. I think I am done--at least for this moment in time.

Hmm, it looks like my response to this got lost in the ether...

I can hardly wait! I'll be watching the mailbox every day! I'm so excited!!
