Wishing you all a very happy (belated) Christmas!
Hope you all managed to spend it with family and friends and find a little time just for yourself (and maybe a bit of fabric and thread).
:D :P :D

Great MRs ! Good way to show them off as well, Rosemary ! Rita...your DD did a lovely job ! The phrase
certainly applies ! I can't help but wonder if she is musical like her parents, too ??
I make a similar trifle in summer with layers of sponge soaked in amoretto (almond liqueur), berries, vanilla
pudding and whipped cream !

Now..off topic...Can anyone tell me how to reset my password? They gave me a number but dummy  here
can't see how to change it on to an easier word/number one. Tech.s are out for holiday. :( Help appreciated !

Great Mug Rugs, Rosemary. What a wonderful wall. Congratulations, Norma! More fun baby quilts in your future. And Rita, your daughter did you proud. As quilters we know that hand-made gifts are from-the-heart gifts and hers are beautiful! My own 7 year old DGD, who I get to see very little, announced yesterday she wanted to sew again. :D :D She remembered when we slipped away last Christmas and did some hand stitching on muslin. Maybe...maybe...

Norma, congratulations on the new addition to the family - meant to say that earlier. :D Lois I am getting a little sewing in today too - before the next round of visitations etc for the holidays. I am trying to catch up on my Bonnie Hunter mystery from last week. Enjoy your time sewing. :D

Another idiom to add to my repitiore that is if I can remember it when I need it. Loved the triffle. Would love eating it much more than reading about it. Christmas is still happening here. Family lives in so many different directions to get around and have visitors too takes a while. Still having to do some prep but today I am trying to take a break from it all and get a bit of sewing in. Take care everyone.

Love your collection of muggies, Rosemary! :D

Rita, your daughter made a wonderful collection of ornaments for you. She might not have licked the stones, but she certainly is a chip off the old block in a wonderful and craftsy way! :D I especially like the pom pom wreath, very, very pretty!!!

As for the trifle, looks divine, Rita. In Italy we have something similar for Christmas but call it Zuppa Inglese... or translated, English Soup. I'm sure we call it soup because each layer of sponge cake is soaked in liqueur or brandy, sometime both and is usually layered in a big see-through glass pedestal bowl. We used to soak the sponge cake in Alchermes, a liqueur made with sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, coriander and vanilla. But I haven't seen a liqueur like this in the States--time to experiment!

Congratulations, dear Norma, on the birth of your niece's little daughter--what a beautiful addition to the family! :D :D :D

Oh My! That trifle looks amazing! :D

I think I will use the "licking the stone" comment from now on. Everyone will think I have gone over the bend! :P

The baby quilt I made is way too easy. I drew a 2 1/2" grid on the white background. Backed 13, 5" squares with wonder under. Cut the squares apart into 2 1/2" squares, laid them on the grid until I liked the flow, pressed the squares to the background, then layered the top, batting, backing and sewed straight lines from top to bottom, side to side catching all the raw edges. It made a nice 1/8" sewn line around each square. (Thereby quilting it at the same time.) Squared up the whole thing, bound it, washed and dried it and viola! A quick easy baby quilt. Mine turned out 29" square.

Still sunny and dry here in Northern California!

Other variations of trifle include - for kids - using fruit flavoured jelly (jello?) over the sponge & fruit, or - for adults only - use the contents of a rumtopf (soft fruit preserved in brandy). When I was small my mother used to use 'Instant Whip/Angel Delight' instead of custard - I loathed cold custard when I was small, but I was happy to eat this variation of trifle.
