My strips are all cut and in the envelope. Email Barb and now I can set back and wait. I also appreciate all the work that must be involved with sorting all these strips. Thanks, Barb!!!

I would also like to add that as a result of my quilt experience over the weekend, I have been washing every batik I own. Some of the pieces I had already cut into 2" strips for a project. I used the gentle cycle in the wash and a regular dry cycle. I am now using the 2" strips in my project. They did not unravel sufficiently enough to prevent their use in my quilt. As a matter of fact, I was AMAZED at how little they did unravel! I am pairing them with my background fabric, a freshly cut strip of fabric, also cut at 2". There are a few of the washed pre-cuts that are not quite that 2" width, so I'm lining up the left side of the strip with the strip below it, which I know to be a true 2", and am stitching my seam on the right. That way, that little bit of discrepancy is being hidden in my first seam allowance, and will cause me no problems with the remainder of the piecing.

Starting on page 21 of the Batiks-R-Us exchange there is a discussion about washing batiks:

That math is correct -

There are 48 1 1/2" x 20" strips in a yard - so you can divide the total number of strips by 48 and you've got the yardage -- scary isn't - if there are 15 yards to a bolt that equates to over 21 bolts of fabric cut up so far in these bags

15242 strips x 1.5 inches /2 strips per width /36 inches= 317.5 yards of fabric! WOW! That is a LOT! Did I do my math right?

My 150 strips are ready to drop off at the Post Office. Since I need to get out near there tomorrow, I will drop them off then. After I do, I will send an e-mail to Barb to let her know that they are on they way. I had a few fabrics that were difficult to determine if they should be sorted with the blues, purples or greens because they had so many beautiful colors in them.

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick update on the strip exchange - I have received packages from 96 of you totaling 15,242 strips :D :D :D . As I am doing the initial sorting by color, I am not seeing duplicates - that is amazing!

I have 22 emails in my folder alerting me of "strips on the way".

Our deadline in the end of April which seems like a long way off - but it will be here before you can blink an eye  - so get those beautiful batiks cut and in the mail.

Almost done with HST for SoTT so now to do the strips for SSE . Hope to get them mailed this week also. Then it will be the wait for the return envelopes. Going to Curves and then off to watch my son run in high school track meet at the local college (its inside). In 2 weeks he will be speaking at our local quilt show as part of the "Youth Quilters Trunk Show".

Happy Sewing!!
