Congrats to you!!! I love Judy's books and quilts. I will get to my Shakespeare, I promise.
I have a confession to make here. I bought fabric. I bought a LOT of fabric.
One of my good friends is the director of a local nursing home. The daughter of one of her residents owned a quilt shop that had to go out of business. So this lady comes to my friend to give her all the fabric because she knows she's a quilter. Obviously, my friend can't accept gifts like that so she suggested flat fold cuts and we(my little quilting group) would buy it from her.
Well, this shop owner comes along and says, $1.00 a YARD :!: :!: 28 yards later, I'm exhausted.
Come on, like none of you would have done the same thing.

NO NEED FOR CONFESSIONS, EILEEN!!! That was just plain SMART fabric shopping! A deal too good to pass up! You go, Girl!

<sigh> I guess I'll just have to try Bonnie's system again. I started cutting strips, etc. a couple of years ago, then the ADHD kicked in. I just recently found those boxes, plus DH has been so kind as to press almost all the scraps. He thought he was going to make a Broken Star quilt out of them. Silly man. He's using some of that fabric that found its way home yesterday.

Fabric Whisperer.... I soooooo agree with u! It is hard to explain to someone not into fabric and quilting how soothing it is to run ur hands across ur fabric and dream of quilts yet to be born. I LOATHE ironing, but not when I am washing, ironing and folding new fabric.

Here is my story...and I am sticking to it!!
I simply love fabric. I like sitting in my sewing room with my fabric. I like folding and refolding my fabric. I like to run my hand over the fresh folds of the fabric sitting on the shelves waiting for me. The nice thing about my fabric: it doesn't ask me for a thing. It waits for me until I am ready. It doesn't eat or drink and only makes a mess when I am in the room with it. I love my fabric. Sure I can talk big about stash reduction...but I simply love my fabric.
While I have been more selective in my purchases...I have not stopped buying fabric.
My quilting groups are now 'shopping' in each others stashes for projects. I have cleaned out my stash because my tastes have changed. I know the fabric will go to a great home and new project. I had to learn to let it go and it was liberating.
My scraps: I need to organize them better. I love Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com her stash organizing plan. I know there are more quilts in those scraps so I need to learn the system to create them.

I have reoganized my work space..and have found I am actually enjoying being in the room. But now my challenge is finding time during the day to actually be in the room.

I have GOT to reduce my stash--I hurt my back a couple of weeks ago lifting the baskets out of the closet! Thankfully, Advil and my heating pad took care of the situation. I really like the ideas on Quiltville. Judy in Torrance

Joanne, I have been collecting strips forever. I haven't counted them but "lots" covers it. Maybe we should get together and make a "Morse Code Quilt" with dots and dashes. Betty Ann

Betty Ann, I had not read this till today. You collect stripes and I collect dots, so a Morse Code quilt with dots and dashes! Sounds like fun! I did just buy more dots last week. I might have enough now, yeah, right.
