I, too, was kind of freaking out about how I was going to choose quilting designs for the BOM after all this intricate piecing. I found a $27 online course on QuiltUniversity.com called Quilting Designs where the teacher discusses many aspects of quilting that I never even considered, like how much time I have to spend, the use of the quilt after completion, my expertise, & more. She gives ways of auditioning patterns. I highly recommend this course. One does not need a high-speed connection to participate. I've only been through the first lesson, but it is very informative.

Debra, go to http://www.patsythompsondesigns.com and watch the free demo videos she has. You can pick up some good ideas from those. She sells DVDs and I've bought 3 and love them, but she also has free design patterns on the web site. She's a member here, by the way.

Awesome website. Thanks for sharing.

I did mine in cross hatching (hand quilted) and I know that's what Sue Garman did also. I think her's was machine quilted tho. (not sure) I did some scallops along the wide outer border (hand) which I think Sue did in feathers. I haven't posted my final pics yet as just finished binding last weekend. Boy, was I happy to put that baby to bed!

Can someone give me some ideas about quilting the 2008 BOM. I am a new quilter and so far have only done meandering all over the quilts I have made. I quilt on a domestic machine. I would like to get a little more detailed with this quilt but am not sure how to go about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Joyce,

Before you start on your sawtooth blocks, you might want to read the Sawtooth Block forum.

Happy quilting,
Nancy

I struggled for a long time debating whether or not I should get the kit. I didn't fall in love with anything at my LQS for the Super Bowl sale so went for the kit.

I love it too!! I'm hoping to finish Feb today except for the sawtooth stars. They will wait I'm afraid.

I'm glad you love it.

Working with the kit keeps me happy!! :D

BOM - Stars for a New Day 21 Feb 2009 09:48 #32664

I had ordered the kit for this year's bom and almost immediately had buyers remorse because, of the expense. I'm not saying the kit cost too much but that I shouldn't be spending the money right now. Anyway, I got the kit the other day and my misgivings evaporated immediately. The fabric and color choices are beautiful and perfect for my decor. I can't wait to get started.
Everyone who has posted a picture of their finished bom have truly encouraged me to take on this major project. Everyone who picked out their own fabrics did a wonderful job. I am very impressed with the creativity. Right now I am washing the fabrics and getting them ready to sew.
