20 Mar 2008 19:20 #15918

If you want to meet Sharon and take a class from her, she will be teaching at Quilting in the Pines in Flagstaff in July. Just click on
quiltcamp.com and read all about it.

I just finished some potholders and thought -- what the heck -- might as well try the binding instruction that Sharon does and it was FABULOUS. Oh my goodness, I have never had such a pretty binding, and I even made it around a heart shaped potholder perfectly with absolutely no pinning or struggling. Don't forget to use the spray starch at first because it really does seal the sides together so that there is no slippage.

Sharon is a person that I would really enjoy meeting in person. You can tell she loves teaching and sharing. And, I think she must dream of inventions in her sleep.

yes, the Halo has enough weight to help hold it in place, yet it easily glides to another area of the quilt when you are ready to move on. It is really easy and comfortable to place your fingers on the Halo to help it glide. I feel it is totally worth its cost.

I wondered the same thing...but the halo looks like it might have some weight to it. it is a fair price tho, considering what we pay for most quilty stuff. :)

Wow, I want one of those, too. I've been intrigued by her little circles and wondered how she did them. Maybe now I can finish some of my UFO's.

When I first started learning FM quilting, I actually put my quilt into an upsidedown embroidery hoop. It made it SOOOO much easier to move, but of course posed problems for quilting larger areas or moving to other areas of a quilt, so I gave up on it pretty quick. This Halo looks like one half of a rubberized embroidery hoop!! I bet it works really well, and I might just have to order it, but I wonder - what if I took half of my embroidery hoop and put some sort of tacky thing on it (rubber bands??? Double sided tape???). Would it possibly work the same. Hmmm... the inventer in me is intrigued...

I'm a sucker for new gadgets, especially if someone else has used it and loves it. So....I ordered a Halo and also one of her feather patterns. I just can't seem to get the knack of doing feathers freestyle! :)

that looks pretty darn cool...I have stayed away from gadgets when so many turn out to be "not so great". but this is going on my shopping list for the paducah show.

Thanks Joanne, I just watched the Halo demo on YouTube. It answered my question. I think I'm going to order one. Judy

The Quilt Halo 20 Mar 2008 01:32 #15873

I couldn't find this on Sharon Schamber's site but I found her Quilt Halo video on YouTube:

Hmm, something else I "need"!

Does the Halo replace using special gloves or rubberized finger cots?

Sherry, you must go and purchase it now because it is fabulous. I was amazed at how well it works. It is kind of tacky and really hugs the quilt.

I love it!

I ordered one and it came last week, but I didn't have a quilt ready to work on right then, so I grabbed some scraps, made a little sandwich and tried it out. This thing is going to be GREAT!
I had tried something similiar several years ago, but really didn't like that one, but I think that Sharon's is worth the money! It's heavy (the other one wasn't), it's a full circle (the other one wasn't), and it actually grips the fabric (the other one didn't). I'm looking forward to trying it on a full size quilt!
