Thank you so much for that video. I had to figure out this morning, that it was dark there and I have not been at the computer since then.
Amazing how fast it went

Yes, thanks, after you posted it. It wasn't there when I checked. SO fast no wonder no one saw it happen!

Ha Rita. Until you said that I didn't remember that it's still dark there! I thought the camera was off this morning.

Thanks so much Susan! I am so fascinated by hummingbirds and just loved seeing them so closely. I was afraid to blink or leave the computer because I knew I'd miss it. After watching them for an embarrassingly number of hrs my husband suggested I put it on my ipad so I could at least take it and move around. Of course after 12 hrs of this I missed the take off during the two minutes when I turned off my Ipad and walked into the kitchen to turn off the big computer to find only ONE bird in the nest! It is very cool though and I learned a lot and saw them really trying to let go.

I think the cam is down. It should be just about dawn there now. One fledged last night (still light in CA), I missed it. It happens so fast. There other one should still be there, it was two days later in hatching than the other.

Update, just chatted with someone who said it's still dark there.

I keep editing this post.
Here's a link showing the first one fledge. Wow, that's fast for a first flight!

Rats! I didn't check the forum until after dark! I think mama hummingbird is still on the nest, but I'll have to check again tomorrow in daylight. Susan, thanks for a great link!

I have been watching them on and off today. Thanks for the link Susan. I just watched the mother feeding them twice. How they managed to stay inside that tiny nest is amazing. And their long thin tongues! I also just witnessed one of them trying out it's wings. I don't think it will be long now. :D

They are adorable. I love hummingbirds. We don't have them. Thanks for giving me the chance to see them so close.

For mother's day:

http://phoebeallens.com/

This is a live cam of two hummingbird babies and momma who flies in & out to feed them. Watch fast, they are scheduled to fledge this weekend.

The nest is the size of a golf ball. The webcam is six inches away, in a rose bush in California. The mother has returned to the same nest for a couple of years.
