I can watch some of the short Quilt Show stuff on the iPad, but the actual shows would require me to buy an app in order to see those. When I read the reviews of the recommended app, they aren't good, so I've been hesitant to do that. The iPad2 is great for reading the forum, blogs, and so on, and for watching the shorter videos. It's amazing to sit in the allergist's waiting room. Almost every adult who comes in has a laptop, a Kindle, a smart phone, or some kind of tablet and that's how we spend the 1/2 hour wait after we get our shots. I've gotten lots of compliments on my homemade carrying case! :D

I made carrying cases for my iPad and iPhone. They work together. The iPhone, in its case, will fit right into the larger pocket on the back of the case for the iPad. I carry both to the allergist every week, because I have to wait 1/2 hour after my injections before they will let me go home. They have free WiFi there, so I can do e-mail, download books to the Kindle app, and so on.

Free WiFi at the Doctor's office? That's a great perk. You could watch part of the Quilt Show!
Imagine free WiFi in waiting rooms...hmmm...

I love making cushions also....and placemats.......i have so many of them both......sometimes i will see a fabric that i would not make a quilt out of but think it would look great as a cushion or placemat.....lol lol lol

You asked a question, and here is my answer. Pillows. Lots of pillows! The solid color ones are from Costco, and I covered them, too with coordinated fabric, but sometimes remove the covers when I need a change. The lumbar pillow is for the matching leather chair. The three larger pillows in the back of the corner couch unit were black leather, and I just thought it was way too much black in my living room!

As I sit here and ponder your question, Lorchen, I can't think of anything I've done out of fabric without quilting since I made my DD 2 culotte (remember them?) dresses when she was in the 4th grade. That would have made her around 9 and she's now 27. 18 years! Wow! Talk about time flying.

Lorchen, your little dress is so adorable. I would think that Mum will save it for a special occasion for her to wear, don't you?

When I hand over the dress to Eva's mum I'll explain about the fabrics, and will also give her a handful of colour catchers (just in case). Seeing that this was my first ever venture into naking something that can be worn I don't mind if there is a disaster when it gets washed for the first time. I'll just have to make another one if that happens. :)

Brenda, agreed, but a friend bought a silk dress for my daughter, she wore it once and it then needed washing which we did gently by hand at which point a lot of the dye dropped out of the skirt and became a totally different colour to the rest of it :( :(

That said, I once had a very expensive (£250  )pair of jeans to shorten, at the tailors shop I was working in, and they felt as stiff as cardboard literally, and the wash instructions was to dry clean only to keep the stiffness! This customer was definately a 'mug' of the 'fashion & label victim' variety

Rosemary, My philosophy is that silk has been around a lot longer than dry cleaning! I love the feel of silk and used to wear a lot of it. It all gets washed in the washer on gentle, hung to dry, ironed wrong side out when damp if it needs it. It seems to have worked well!

What a sweet dress. I am sure your granddaughter will be lovely in it. When the kids were little I used to do a fair amount of clothes sewing. Earlier this spring I actually made a flower girl dress for my granddaughter which she wore in my daughter's wedding in April. THe pattern was simple enough but I actually tried machine embroidery on it which was a first for me. Up to that point I have just practiced embroidering tea towels.

That's very cute Lorchen. Never mind the washing - your grand-daughter will probably get to wear it once for best and the next time they try to put it on her she will have grown out of it. It's a keeper so I hope they do. :D
