TOPIC: I found a new quilting-design tool!

14 Dec 2008 17:28 #29652

I have one and it's very special. One end is broken off, but it was my dads and he wrote his name on it. Dad passed away 8 years ago the 20th of this month from Alzheimer's. I use my ruler for drafting and I know that dad helps me because my drafting always comes out correct! Funny the things we keep of the ones we love.

Lynn, just make sure the measurements are the same as your other rulers. I learned this from Chrystal Carter years ago. I always make sure if I use two different "makes" of rulers that the markings on the rulers are exactly the same. I'll have to check this ruler out--sounds really good! Judy in Torrance

Lynn, I have that one. But mine is an "antique", as I bought in the early 80's! I do use is still!

Lynn, this is a great tool. Years ago, I mean before rotary cutters almost, every quilter started with this ruler--with it's small, accurate lines is was perfect for drafting templates--now, doesn't that sound like the dark ages??!!

Was just browsing around  :? at JoAnns today looking at what's new and different.

This may not be new and different to you, but what I found is a Dritz Quilting See Through Drafting Ruler. Price: $5.99. What I liked about it is it's size - not so big you can't handle it - 2" x 18" - and it has small holes (pencil lead size) running down the center so that it can function as a compass for design use. (or a circle-maker if your name is Alex!)

It has 1/8" grid lines for accurate alignment and 1/16" markings all around the edges!

I think it will be quite useful. And of course I used a 50% off coupon!

I'll put a picture on my blog. quilterlynn.blogspot.com
