TOPIC: IT IS DONE!!!!

16 Mar 2008 17:29 #15664

Hey Mary Ann, identical, huh? I've got boys, 2 weeks from 17th b'day!
I actually have a quilt finished & waiting for my lil' sister's 50th b'day... which is 3 years from now!! But I didn't really have a plan as I made it, and it just kept calling her name! I'd just made one for my big sis on her 50th, so I figured that would work... I just don't know if I can really hold onto it that long, silly, huh? (and I guess you can tell I'm in the middle, next year is the big 50... maybe I'll make one for ME :) except I have to make TWO for the twins HS graduation. But hey, their grades are currently suffering, maybe if they'd take another year of HS, I'd have more time to get it all done LOL

OK Margo,

You asked for it, you got it! I've just updated my profile to include pics of hubby and our daughters.

In keeping with the "Funny Thing Happened/It Is Done!" theme, I just finished a charm square tote last night...It Is Done! The funny thing is that it is a gift for my MIL for Mother's day...and I got it done EARLY! THAT will never happen again!

What a beautiful family!! Thanks for sharing Mary Anne!!
BTW....Never say "Never"! I used to say I would never do hand applique! Oops!

My MIL taught both of her sons to cook, clean and sew...and put the seat down! (I digress...) Almost 18 years ago I was pregnant with twins. One morning I went to the doctor for my weekly checkup and he sent me over to the hospital for some tests. Later that day, I was told that I wasn't going home! Yikes! I still had to finish making the dust ruffles for the cribs! Much to my surprise, when we ALL came home, DH had finished the dust ruffles and had everything ready. What a great guy! These days he would opt for a miter saw over a rotary cutter - but that's OK!

OK, MaryAnn....now we want to see a picture of this guy, so we will know what a special guy looks like!!! WOW!!!
(And the twins, too!)

If you will notice, the last post on that page was several months ago. I think that the interest in the Member Blogs has sorta taken it's place!

Margo I felt the same way, but since you said this there are three new stories!! I had gotten so that I wasn't checking very often, due to the infrequency of new stories, but it's "alive" again-- and one is about a charity quilt drive so it would be great to check out :)
I don't think I can squeeze anything else in before June, but I'll at least help pass the word....
so folks go check the stories... and while you're at it, think about submitting one of YOUR stories :) Florence

Before I was a quilter, back when my sons were young, I taught both of them to sew. I had them make themselves a pot holder, a pair of shorts, a knit shirt, and a gym bag. They did wonderful jobs, both of them. But now they are grown men, they don't admit they ever touched a machine. Still...my oldest seems to know what my daughter in law needs for her new quilt studio he's outfitting for her (he's a marvelous woodworker), and my youngest has some wonderful ideas when I show him my quilts. It wasn't wasted. Who knows, they may eventually be drawn in....LOL

I certainly hope I will have time - Mikey is only 3 right now, lol.

My dh is not a quilter...yet  However he has dabbled in embroidery and a few years ago cross stitched a sheet and pillow set for our then newborn son. I have a picture of him working on the sheet here somewhere, I'll post it in my profile if I can find it again. Anyway, it is just so funny to see this bear of a man (former powerlifter, state deadlift record holder in his class in 1995) sitting there working with a needle that practically disappears in his hand on something as dainty as a cross stitch. He says he finds it very calming. Recently I have been inspired by TQS to take that sheet and turn it into a wholecloth quilt to give our son later as an heirloom - something he can give his future wife and say "BOTH my parents made this for me."

LOVE IT MANDY! You will have to post a photo when you are done!

One of my most favorite pictures of Joshua is of him hand stitching the binding on the car quilt that he designed and made!
:D Yeah! I'm proud!

Well I just returned home from the craft store. I picked up some maerial for my Elijah (10) and some for his lilltle girl friend (9). I also picked out some flame and skull material for Alex(14). Elijah is home and loves his. It has all kinds of colors on it. He wants a cosmic bowling bedroom so I figured most of his will probably be aplique. Alex's room is dragons. So the skulls and flames will fit right in.
