So...I've been using my new baby today and she's great! :P Sews like a dream. I'm using it on a paper piecing project and the stitches are effortlessly even and tiny and the tension is consistent. AND I got a tray on e-bay this evening. Probly bid too much, but what the heck-I wanted it!

I teach and I see plenty of students using their Featherweights. They are never the ones with machine problems! It's the ones with the cheep new machines and sometimes the ones with the very pricey and complicated ones.

My sister has the one that was our mother's and it's from 1954. She has the original box and the manual and all the attachments and it runs great. I've told her not to sell it unless she's really sure she gets a good price for it. She doesn't intend on selling anyway!

Plenty cold and icy here in Western NY State! Nancy

I got my Mom's old FW after she passed away a few years back. I know she used it, especially at classes. I opened the box about 1 year after I got it- yes, it's musty smelling too. Any suggestions to remove this smell would be welcomed. Machine light comes on but can't get it to sew, guess I'll have to find someone who knows what they are doing to show me how to use. I have all the attachments (even a ruffler) and book, but love sewing on my Bernina so much I haven't taken time to learn this older machine. Oh well, the machine at least looks cute sitting in my sewing "studio". Hope everyone has a great day. Rena

:D :D HAPPY DANCE :D :D
My featherweight came today! It's beautiful! The seller listed her birthday as April 20, 1948. Older than me...cool! Her name is "Andy Rose" after DH and a grandbaby. I ordered an operator's manual and an adjusters manual, some needles, bobbins, and little rubber feet. The box doesn't smell funky, but has no tray. Are they available anywhere? Repros maybe? My next day off will be spent "bonding" with my new baby. How fun is this?

You will love your little Featherweight! I ordered the extension table from this place...... http://www.comequiltwithme.com/shop/home.php
I have a large Horn sewing cabinet with a storage chest slid under one end. I took the storage chest out and put it beside the sewing table. This gives me a place to put my Featherweight with extension table.

Thanx y'all! I have to wait a whole week for delivery-I can't stand it! I looked at a soft case last night. If the box smells funky I'll probly get one. As for my son, well...when he was little DH and I called him a walking cartoon. He loved to make us laugh, still does. He's a goofy sweet kid with is own laptop. Interesting combination.

Sherry, I have had my featherweight for several years now. I bought it at an antique store in Williamsburg, VA and it was in pretty good condition. I use it to take to classes and although it only goes forward and backward, it hums along. I'm sure you will love it. I bought a walking foot for it but that is all. There is a dealer of supplies named Jean Lyle who I met at a show once from Illinois, I think. I bought a soft case from her because I couldn't stand the smell of the wooden box. I had tried to get the smell out for a whole year using every known method known to man and it still smelled too musty for my sensitive nose. You might see Lyle's adds in magazines or you could go on line.

What's up with your son? He is so funny.

I agree! How cool that you now have one after being so generous to donate the first one:) I really am enjoying my machine and so appreciate my dil's brother who found it for me at a rummage sale!

Enjoy your FW and happy sewing:)

Patty

ps I'm still looking forward to starting my map quilt - hopefully next year. I may be calling on you for advice when I start:)
