I don't have this machine, but when I am free motion quilting my feed dogs are down, so stitch length won't matter. When I drop the feed dogs on my machine, the stitch length automatically goes to zero. If yours doesn't do that, maybe set the stitch length to zero by hand, so the feed dogs don't go back and forth, keeps them from wearing out, perhaps.
Tension is another matter, you will have to experiment with upper and bobbin tension, each individual machine is different!
