TOPIC: Emerald 183 versus Janome 6260 Quilter's Companion

30 May 2008 06:30 #18900

I have the 6260, then moved up to the 6500, so I use the 6260 for my class machine. I would highly recommend it. Make sure you take classes from the dealer, as they can help you learn all the possibilities of using your machine!

It does more than I need, but I love what I use it for.

Thanks for your help, ladies. I probably will go for the Janome machine unless someone comes up with a reason not to soon. One of my concerns is that the model I was shown was a 3050...the 6260 wasn't in stock. Hopefully another dealer will have the 6260 so I can "play." I like to actually see what I'm buying before spending the money.

I own the Janome DC3050, and bought the "quilting" package with walking foot and 1/4 inche seam foot. I know this is not the "Quilting" edition but I love love love this sewing machine and have no desire for another!

Buy the machine that fits your needs, but also make sure you take the classes offered on the machine. My Viking has the ability to move the needle, but I never took the classes and didn't know this for almost 8 years!

Have not used the Emerald 183 but have used the Huskystar at the IQF this past April. I hated the Husky. I have a Viking machine and love it but the Huskystar was terrible--and I wasn't the only one that didn't like it. Everyone in the class was moaning. I think it is because we all have higher priced machines, and are spoiled, but it seemed to have a lot of thread problems. Have never used a Janome so I can't help you there. ritzy

I bought the QC6260 several years ago after looking at other machines. I love it :!: I wouldn't change it for anything. The reason I bought it was mostly the cost compared to the other machines. Best decision as far as I'm concerned. Gloria

Emerald 183 versus Janome 6260 Quilter's Companion 06 May 2007 14:41 #4234

I looked at the Huskystar C20 yesterday and found that really the Emerald 183 more closely fits my needs. My mistake was going to look at the Janome machines next. The Janome 6260 costs less, has more features and comes with a quilters package which includes a walking foot, quarter inch foot, plus others. The dealers both have good reputations. Has anyone used or owned either of these machines? Would you share anything that may help me make my decision? Thanks.
