She's passionate about those old Singers and has helped me resolve some FMQing issues on my 301 as well. I recently bought a FW at an estate sale for $220. She is gorgeous and I learned from the serial number that she was built in Oct, 1948 and was a special edition. The silver plate at the left side is all detailed and scroley. The problem is that she didn't come with any accessories, in fact, no bobbins and the wrong bobbin case. I know of a repair man who probably can help me but it's a 1/2 hr. drive and I have yet to get over to see him. I am just dying to try her out!

I asked the lady running the sale for the name of the woman who'd owned her so I can call her "Janice" after the original owner. She was obviously well cared for. The case doesn't even have any odor (quite a problem sometimes, I'm told!)

Now I have 3 "antique" machines and am seriously wondering if I've started some addictive collecting habbit........Help!

Add them to the 1970's Singer Touch and Sew, the Brother embroidery and 2 Vikings and I think I have enough machines.

Can we ever truely have enough sewing machines?!!....................

I just ran across a blog by Bonnie Hunter in which she describes how she travels (flying) with her quilting stuff....and she included some interesting info about a neat roll-on bag that she carries her FW in when she travels, as well as her handwork, laptop, etc....I think it looks very useful and may get one, as the handle on the original case to my FW is not in very good shape. Congratulations to the new FW owners! They are a joy to behold and to use (rare combo sometimes LOL!)

Also think about the already-mentioned Featherweight Yahoo Group for specific technical and maintenance tips. The knowledge there cannot be beat. They've also helped me work on my 301, which I might love even a little more than my 221.

The 301 not only pieces as precisely as the Featherweight, it can also FMQ... and weighs only 5 more lbs. Anyway, both of my black beauties came from eBay and I was very fortunate with both transactions.

That's a great price for a Featherweight....congrats! I'm a new owner of a FW too.(Christmas present from my DH). I recommend Dave's website for any info on FW's too. I purchased the video & book for maintainence. Invaluable!
