TOPIC: thread painting questions

07 Sep 2008 08:14 #25668

I am just finishing a quilt with lots of thread paiting. I did use stablizer and would highly recommend using some where ever you want to thread paint. I quilter around most of the thread painting when I quilted the quilt. Good luck! Mary Kay

I finally got my DVDs back...

Ann Fahl .. Coloring with Thread ...
Laura Saislowski... Fused Art Quilt
Katie Pasquini Masopust... Dynamic Art Quilts.

I am watching them while I stitch binding and drink my Sunday morning tea or coffee ( I have not decided which yet.)

By !0 am I will be at my sewing machine.

I took the baby to Mass last night..... NEVER AGAIN.... HE screamed though the whole Mass ... We even had to leave the cry room he was so upset about something. I sat and rocked him in the car til he fell asleep; it was an out side mass and I could watch everyone pray... too bad it did not have car speakers.

Have you seen the book 'Thread Magic' by Ellen Anne Eddy? Her quilt designs are beautiful in themselves but she also shares her techniques in a very user-friendly way. Maggi

Well, I haven't done a lot of thread painting but with what I did I used a stabilizer. It keeps the fabric from drawing up on itself with the heavy stitching; then I put the batting and backing and did the quilting. When I did the postcard--I just use that stabilizer as the batting. Hope this helps.

When thread painting... do you use some kind of stablizer?

Do you thread paint first .... then add batting and backing then quilt the project?

Do you add backing and batting then use the thread painting as the quilting?

Any other tips would be appreciated as this is the first time I am trying to do this type of project... I have ART DVDs but they are loned out right now and I can not remember what the teachers said.
