I have not been on the forum for quite awhile so just today found out about this. I lost my father and his youngest sister to this life stealing disease. I am now just 2 years younger than my father when we lost him. I am also pretty busy but will try to make some more quilts for the cause this summer or fall. I did some when Ami first started the project.

Aileen,

Love that little guy! Hope you are recovering well from your surgery. Thanks for the binding tips!

Hi Clara, I see you are the proud owner of a Susan Cleveland quilt. As you can see the binding is perfect. I noticed a lot of conversation about binding this month. My binding either comes out good or it comes out "OMG. where did I go wrong"? This month I had to finish a doll swap quilt before going in for surgery. So what I did was watch Susan Cleveland's YouTube video called Piping Hot Binding. I did not have any piping in the house so I skipped that but use the rest of the method. It is a little weird sewing backwards. My corners and edges came out perfect. I did not hand sew the other side as the neck pain made that impossible for me. I machine sewed it in the same manner as adding the binding with the needle going down right next to the binding strip. It gave it a clean finish on the back. My quit was only 20 x 20" but it made a big difference on the finished product.

Wow Nancy, that looks just great. Your piping and binding look soooo good too. :D I can't wait to see what you do with the Tambani embroidery. :D

Nancy, I love your Alzheimer's priority quilt, especially the quilting with the perfect pebbles and other fine stitching. It is beautiful! :) :) :) Renata

Love the contrast with the blue and gold. Very nice. It's like a mini rhapsody.

Woohoo! I finished my second Alzheimer's quilt. Here's a picture:

And here is a detail of the quilting in the center:

I really like how it turned out!

I'm still collecting the quilts so I can mail them all together, so it'll be a little while before these are registered. But I'm making progress and have lots of plans!

Yes, please don't make your pieces any larger than 9" on the shortest side! This is a finished measurement, not a pre-binding measurement. I HATE sending quilts back, but I have to if they are over the size limit! Please measure carefully.

Hi Diane -

No worries! My quilts will definitely be within the size limit! I'm a little excessively detail-oriented, as my friends can attest to....

The larger Tambani embroideries just barely make the size limits, but I think are cute with just a binding added and some nice embellishments like Rita did on hers. There are also smaller embroideries that are about 3"x3.75" that I'm going to order for this. They will give more space for playing around and still help both causes.

I just put the binding on my latest Alzheimer's quilt last night and will decide tonight if I want to add some crystals to make it really sparkle. I'll post a picture once it's complete.

Thanks!!

Nancy

Nancy, Just bear in mind that there is very little room for quilting on these panels as they are almost 9" to begin with. I cut the border down so that I could make it work.

Clara, what a great idea to use some of your Sotts HSTs. It won't take many. Rosemary is going to send me a spare spool or two and I will make those into an AAQI quilt.
