MY library of quilting books is huge... over 250 books.. new, used and out of publications. My favorite is ususally the one I am using to solve a quilting problem.

Currently Mary Masuto's FOOL PROOF MACHINE QUILTING.... using it of machine quilt my baby quilts for my grandson... loving it!

I am making the F&P American Sampler for my BOM quilts.... I also have their BIG QUILTING GUIDE BOOK.

I also have a huge collection of DVDs and books by Elenor Burns cause my quilting buddy and I are making the blocks for a second BOM for just the two of us.

MY favorite tool is EQ6 because I can check my designs and quilting ideas before I cut my fabric. Saves me a lot of aggrivation.

I just thought I would put this in because I thought it was sweet. My Dad was out and about the other day and he found a book called The Quilters Ultimate Visual Guide, Ellen Pahl Editor. I have no idea why he was looking at how to books at a second hand store. I began looking through it and wow there is a ton of info in it. This would be a fantastic book for a quilter at any level. He usually gets things for my boys or the other grandkids. This time I got to be spoiled. Rachel a very grateful daughter.

I got Vikki Pignatelli's book, "Quilting by Improvisation" yesterday in the mail. WOW!!! What a great book. The writing and the explanations are wonderful.
Thanks to TQS for introducing us to so many fantastic quilters and new to us techniques.

I don't know if they are my favorites exactly, but 2 books I often use and find really valuable are:

The Border Workbook by Janet Kime and
Sensational Settings, which I can't find right now! (so much for my great organizing of my sewing area!)

I'd have to say the "Quilters' Complete Guide" by Fons and Porter. I've got the older hardcover spiral-bound version. I find myself referring to it often, especially when I need to go back to basics. 8)

I am also a fan of Barbara Olson Journey of an art quilter. I get such inspiration from this book. She gives you instructions you can understand and teaches you how to use her techinques in your own design as well. GREAT BOOK. I am going to amazon now and get Rickys book. I have never seen it but Since ya'll give it rave reviews it must be as good as all that!

Rotary Magic is great! 09 Apr 2007 09:24 #3314

Nancy Johnson-Srebro's Rotary Magic was one of the first books I bought when I started quilting. I had no idea where to start, and that book has been such a great resource for several years now. I always recommend it to new quilters.

Mimi Dietrich's Happy Endings is another must-have. She makes all those tricky looking borders and bindings much easier to handle by sharing her secrets and with clear, simple directions.

For sheer visual pleasure, Louisa Smith's books are marvelous. They are so inspiring as she makes art quilts a lot more accessible for traditional quilters who want to try something different.

my 2 cents 19 Feb 2007 16:11 #1176

I have to say Barbara Olsen's book Journey of an Art Quilter is my all time favorite. I go back again and again and reread some of the chapters. Her thoughts on creativity are wonderful. Anyone who enjoys art quilts would enjoy this book.

I agree wholeheartedly, Ann! (Thanks for your incentive and help! ) What a way to use fantastic fabrics to create wonderful works of art without making a huge investment, money wise, as well as time (both of which are in small quantity for me!) Great for gifts, too! Ricky's instuctions are very precise, photos are awesome...actually, pretty enough to make a "coffee table" book! I'm anxious to invest in the CD's, too.
I'm enthused enough about creating Convergence quilts that I wish we could have a special thread in our forum discussing them.
