I solved that problem by running my seam ripper parallel between my fabric and the paper. It glides like butter

Just received my kit - shot cotton is not a good fabric choice when paired with a waxy freezer paper and the paper piecing technique. I usually like shot cotton but it was very hard to take off the freezer paper. Even when done very carefully, the shot cotton frayed at the seams. Disappointed. :(
