Ellenceleste, beautiful fabrics. Isn’t it fun to get ready?

Last week I went to my local quilt shop, Inspire, in Plant City, Florida on small business Saturday. I found fabric I want, and bought the blue background fabric, but it was really crowded, so I decided to come back this Saturday and collect more. I'm excited about working on this quilt (but I really need to get more 9 patches done for the 2020 quilt!) I've got my notebook ready, and have added swatches over the printout to match things up. I do need a few more blues. That gives me an excuse to go back to Inspire during Christmas break!

And can you please explain about the bias tape, can it be replaced by regular black bias tape? I have never heard about the one you talked about.

Have a nice day and I am so much looking forward to working on the quilt.

Katja, the 1/4” black bias tape is used to build the trees, Eiffel Tower and Centrepoint Tower. You can certainly make your own. The Clover brand pre-made tape is double fold, so no raw edges, 1/4” wide, and has fusible adhered to the back. You will need 15-16 yards of bias.

Glad to have you with us!

1/4 yards are not enough. If using quarters add at least 8 more. A great thing about this quilt is you can continue to add fabrics right up to the end.

Geribear, Good info from rehak. If a fat quarter is 18 by 22 that gives you 396 square inches. If a 1/3 yard is 12 by 44 that gives you 528 square inches. So you
might be digging into your stash to make up the difference. HelenW

Hi Geribear -

I haven't made this quilt, but a fat quarter has slightly less fabric than 1/3 yard. However, this is a completely scrappy quilt and it sounds like you are not directed as to which fabric to use where. So, you could start with the same number of fat quarters as there are 1/3 yard cuts specified in the pattern. Then, if you find yourself short of fabric, you could either use some from your stash or buy a little more. Since this is a paper pieced project, part of what determines how much fabric you need is how careful you are with your fabric usage. The larger the pieces you cut, the easier it is to paper piece without mistakes but the more fabric you will use. If you are an experienced paper piecer, you will probably need less fabric. Designers try to be conservative with their fabric estimates since they don't want people who are making their patterns to run out of fabric, so these fabric estimates are probably larger than needed, but you never know until you make the pattern. Hope this is helpful!

Yes, fat quarters will work just fine and Kaffe shot cottons will work. They are a little thinner than some other brands but the freezer paper adds some stability.

I have two questions regarding the fabric. Would fat quarters work and how would Kaffee Fasset’s shot cottons work?
