You'll want to wash them to make sure you have color fast fabrics should you ever need to wash the quilt. Even though hand dyes have been washed at least once, you don't know how the chemicals in your water compare to what they were originally washed in and if you don't wash them, you could still have some fabric bleed even though they've already been washed once in the production process. That's always been Ricky's advice.

But now I want to only use it for the outer circle. Does anyone know how much I will need for background for the inner circle? I thought I could do a night/day scenario.

The tree trunks are appliqué, I used black thread on the pre-made black bias. The only other appliqué are the trees, as HelenW said, and I used one green that blended with both greens.

JessieCrawford, Usually you match the applique piece you are stitching onto something. If it were the green semi-circles for trees on a background, your thread would match the green tree. HelenW

The city roads will turn into branches and the tree tops might turn into leaves, will have to audition ideas. Have not picked a background fabric yet. Have not decided whether to go half size or full size. Lots will change before I begin, it always does. HelenW
