Thank you Barbara. My new question is do you think I should I cut strips for the borders before cutting into my fabric for the individual months. ( I am the one with 5 panels instead of one cut of background fabric. )

Connie, great collection of fabrics. You will have fun.

The houses don't come with assigned fabric placement so everyone will be their own architect. creating each house/building with their own choice of fabric. however they like.

If you got 4.25 yards of panels it will work. The background is cut into small pieces for each block.

The borders could be a problem as they are cut in long strips.

Art History 101 is being reprinted right now for The Quilt Show so for those of you who want it, WAIT. I do not believe It will be sold to stores, it is being reprinted for the Kits.

Hi everyone. I loved the art history print and was disappointed when the kit had run out. I didn’t wait to see if the quilt show could get more and found this fabric Online. And figured I could use up stash fabrics for the buildings. I just got my order and they cut the fabric into panels. Barbara, do you think this will work or so I need to piece them together to make it work. Thanks...

Very excited about this quilt, but I may be in a pickle. Before your video last week suggesting not to use black fabric, I bought black fabric. I realized at the time that the black bias tape would not work on this fabric but thought I could find brown that would work. Can't find any. Next thought would be to make my own. Can you tell me, please, how much fabric I would need to buy to make enough bias tape for this project. Have learned to not get in a hurry!! I really don't want to have to buy more background fabric.

The black might work for the trees. The Eiffel Tower and centerpoint tower use a lot of black to create those skyscrapers. You might substitute a gray background for the four skyscrapers in the corners.

To make your own, Google 1/4” bias tape maker. Lots of info and videos. The quilt needs 15-16 yards. That requires about 3/4 yard to cut 1” bias strips.

Not likely there is a drawing. Wendy draws her patterns by hand. Once the patterns start in January you may want to play in EQ. As there are no “blocks” that is way more work to do a Custom design than I would do.

Barbara, Is there any coloring pages for the Color My World? I know with Sizzle, even though there wasn't one at the start, Becky Goldsmith did provide one when asked about it.
For those like me who will be using as much as I can from my stash, that would be really helpful.I like trying out several combos before committing. HelenW

If using two different fabrics for background, here is the yardage:

Inner section--up to outer road 1.5-2 yards, 1.5 yards is minimum
Outer section--large section beyond outer road and borders 2.75- 3 yards

Yes, that is more than the 4.25 yards if using only one background--I don't want you to run out and small leftover pieces from the Inner section are used in the Outer section--that won't happen if these are two different fabrics.

Peppered Cottons are shot cottons and they are great--I love them, use them frequently and they will work beautifully in this project. Different manufacturer but similar fabric. Oakshott Cottons is another brand, also the same, woven from two different color threads. Gather a wide variety of colors of solids so you can build interesting houses.

The black bias is used for tree trunks and making the Eiffel Tower and Centrepoint Tower. The trees are not real curvy so you can most likely use straight grain--your trees will just be a bit more straight. And you can make your own bias, if you like. Plan on 15-16 yards of 1/4" bias--I like it double folded so there is no raw edges.

Excellent video by our BOM teacher Barbara Black on pre washing fabrics. She also gives a visual presentation on how to use the forum, which everyone doing this project will want to do as they proceed with Color My World. I like to watch for a bit to get my creative juices flowing before jumping in. I often go off in a different direction when I see some really great ideas of what others are doing. If you have not yet watched Barbara's video it is well worth the time spent. For those new to all the in and outs, this is a screen shot
of what you are looking for to watch it. HelenW

Yes, im getting excited too. I have decided to use a fair number of my stash fabrics but have also purchaded a number of shot cottons, they are called peppered cottons here in Canada.
Question, does the black bias tape need to be biased?
If i decide to do the background in 2 fabrics, what is the yardage for each area, inner circle and outer circle?
Thank you! :)

Sharlykay, there will be lots of kits when they come in. Sign up for email to be notified when they are back in stock so you can order. We won’t be giving the SKU numbers.

And you are correct—the names were how I distinguished the various colors. Peach may be listed as red/white, or purple was blue/red. If you are picking your own solids just find colors you like, all solids work. No need to match the kit exactly.

I am looking forward to this! I hope I will be able to get the fabric once the new kits are available. If not, would it be possible to add the "SKU" numbers to the Windham Artisan fabrics? Many shops carry these luscious fabrics, but the descriptors in the Introduction (for example, "apple green," "medium green") are not the ones necessarily used in on line retailers. Thank you.
