"Afternoon Delight" was one of Sue Garman's favorite patterns. This wonderfully scrappy quilt is truly a delight to make with its combination of simple appliqué and Double Nine-Patch blocks and modified Shoo Fly blocks. Each month you will work on pieced and appliquéd blocks, and in the final month, you will assemble the blocks and add the outer border. The finished quilt measures approximately 86 1/2" inches square.

Let's use this Topic "Afernoon Delight Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.

The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.

AND when you post your photos to Social Media, like Instagram, Facebook, etc., use either of these hash tags so everyone there will be able to find our wonderful work:

sandytn - Very nice! I'm doing the same, needle turn using the same C&T Wash Away applique sheets and also my Apliquick tools. Fairly stiff after washing still, but I've decided I'm ok with it.

Month two. Used some sticky stabilizer I use for embroidery. Have a roll of it. It's called filmoplast. Very thin. Hope it works. Better than my raw edge applique last time. Took longer time though

HelenW - I used Black DMC Pearl Cotton thread. I usually use 2 or 3 strands of DMC Embroidery Floss but I had purchased this ball of thread that I had never used. The outline covered up a lot of mistakes.

Sandy, What thread and stitch did you use to get the black outline look? It looks great! HelenW

Block1January2020BOM.jpg

I completed my first block Sunday!!! I ordered the kit as a late Christmas present once I decided to make this years BOM. I did needle turn applique using C&T Wash-Away Applique Sheets (it's fusible on one side). It was easy to feel the C&T Applique Sheets on the inside curves but I had problems feeling it on the outside curves and got some points. I think I am going to try using my Apliquick tools and glue to prep the next block.

NanaPie -- it is a Fiskars. It actually isn't that great, though the colors are good and it is reversible. It is lighter on the other side. I use an Olfa mat for cutting.

I finally finished the Applique Blocks for Month 1. Here they are. I thought they came out well especially since I am fairly new to applique. I did switch from using the Print and Piece light fusible to Wonder-Under. The Print and Fuse and the fabric glue kept coming lose and my applique pieces were flapping around constantly. The Wonder-Under worked great, so that's what I'm sticking with. It maybe that being inexperienced, I am handling the piece too much with having to take out stitches etc. Well on to Month 2.
