"Afternoon Delight" was one of Sue Garman's favorite patterns. This wonderfully scrappy quilt is truly a delight to make with its combination of simple appliqué and Double Nine-Patch blocks and modified Shoo Fly blocks. Each month you will work on pieced and appliquéd blocks, and in the final month, you will assemble the blocks and add the outer border. The finished quilt measures approximately 86 1/2" inches square.

Let's use this Topic "Afernoon Delight Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.

The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.

AND when you post your photos to Social Media, like Instagram, Facebook, etc., use either of these hash tags so everyone there will be able to find our wonderful work:

Thanks for the information, Helen. I think this is the route I'm going to go. I just finished quilting the 2014 BOM with my Bernina 1230, and my Sweet 16, but I want to experiment with ruler work (I am the queen of meandering!) and feel doing this quilt in quarters would be easier to handle and ups the odds of my being happy with straight lines! We shall see! Thank you for giving us the idea.

Beverly (NanaPie), Yes, I did mention that I plan to quilt my Afternoon Delight in sections. I subscribe to Bluprint and have Marti Michelle's video Machine Quilting in Sections.
She has a variety of ways to do different kinds of quilts. I am thinking I will probably go with Single Finishing Strips and Encased Seams on Borders techniques. I can't
remember how Georgia Bonsteel did it, but I am thinking it was probably single finishing strips on the back. Marti has her book on Amazon. I included a screenshot.
Also, there are a number of you tubes on machine quilting in sections. If you bring up Marti 's promo for her book, in the side bar are a number of other quilters that
have videos. Should be an interesting experiment. HelenW

Helen, I think you mentioned in one of your posts that you planned to machine quilt this in quarters How do you plan to alter the blocks so that can be done? I'm thinking of how Georgia Bonesteel's method worked - is that what you are planning? It sure sounds like a good idea to me.

Catalina Quilter, Barbara answered your question about fabric. I am glad she did, because I would have had to say I did not know the answer to the question.
So far I have not got to thinking about a border. I have got way off track on this project because I decided to play along with the Kaffe Mystery quilt doing it in the
virtual world of EQ8, and since I am a more of an earth tone and gem stone color person. No Kaffe in my stash. If I come up with some ideas for my border I will post them
so you can see. Be sure to post your progress. We are all having so much fun, HelenW

QUESTION: I bought the original kit with fabric. Do you think I will have enough fabric to create a 9 x 10 block top ?
Pattie

You will definitely have enough of the Darker prints for a 9 x 10 layout. The lighter ones that are used for appliqué background and in the pieced blocks may need a supplement. The great thing about this quilt and kit is how easy it is to add your own fabrics if needed. Anything that looks like the originals will work. Just sprinkle them throughout the quilt. And you can always check in advance to see how many blocks you can make with what you have left—calculate how many of those lights you can cut into the sizes needed.

I posted a layout for an horizontal set at thequiltshow.com/forum/bom-2020-afternoon-delight/8983-color-and-layout-check. it's 11x11 I noted the difference in number of blocks in the post as well - it was pretty minor. I'm working from my stash, so can't say for certain regarding the kit, but knowing the block counts could help you figure it out.

I have been reviewing all the comments, pictures, etc from everbody and I thought I was ready....Until I saw your horizontal vs on point blocks and fell in love with the the secondary design.
QUESTION: I bought the original kit with fabric. Do you think I will have enough fabric to create a 9 x 10 block top ? What type of border are you planing?
ALL the quilt blocks have been so inspiring. Thx
