Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month creative journey along America’s backcountry roads as we bring you "The Patchwork Barn Quilt," a fabulous quilt designed especially for TQS by Edyta Sitar. A spectacular medallion quilt featuring a barn nestled amongst rows of ‘crops’ (blocks). Edyta’s design inspiration was the result of observing the painted quilt blocks on the side of barns as she traveled across the country.

Known for her love of colorfully elegant scrap quilts, Edyta has this time, used her magic touch by combining a wide variety of blue and cream fabrics set against a creamy background. The resulting design is a stunning, but quieter scrap quilt that is sure to be a family favorite for generations to come. Each month we will provide photos, detailed directions for a portion of the quilt, and full-size patterns.

August blocks completed! I found No. 23 quite difficult, but maybe I'm simply slow? So much piecing, pressing, trimming. Anyway, they're all done now. I feel I've learned such a lot from this little exercise and especially from the generous and professional assistance of Barbara......many thanks again. Well, I've done it again...…….photo is upside down once again. Don't know how to correct this little glitch in the system.

Last month's nine blocks completed - at last!! I couldn't find it in my heart to love that little basket block, so I've substituted one I located on the internet. Not sure I've done myself a favour with this block, really, as it was more difficult (for me) than I had expected. I always seem to have difficulty in attaching a photo and it always appears in this miniscule form. As well as that, the colour is nowhere near the actual colour and the photo is upside down. Anyway, this is the best I seem to be able to do.

This was a bit of a challenge. I ended up replacing the background directional fabric in block 19 so I could use either direction in those half triangles. I used Marti Michell templates to cut the quarter square triangles in block 21. After doing two of them in the striped background, I went to an allover print for the third basket. Block 20 used odds and ends of fabrics, don't think any of them are like the picture. They were used as leader/enders on the other blocks, when needed. I ended up making extra rails, just because I wasn't counting, so could play around with them at the end.

Once everything is put together only you will know there are imperfections. Don't point them out! :)

I was behind and now I am caught up to June, with July partially cut out. July block 19 has directional prints in the small triangles. Esthetically, I hesitate to make them upside down, so I am looking at some alternative fabrics, making the small triangles different than the big one. Any other suggestions? Looking at my April block, having that blue floral fabric upside down isn't that big an issue...

Just do the best you can--the points will probably be "hidden" a bit in order to get the block to 6.5" unfinished.

Or make the interior square smaller. You can let it float and preserve the points.

All caught up. Block 14 is off. Don't know how I'm going to fix it. The seams are too small and now the whole block is more than 6 1/2
