Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month creative journey along America’s backcountry roads as we bring you "The Patchwork Barn Quilt," a fabulous quilt designed especially for TQS by Edyta Sitar. A spectacular medallion quilt featuring a barn nestled amongst rows of ‘crops’ (blocks). Edyta’s design inspiration was the result of observing the painted quilt blocks on the side of barns as she traveled across the country.

Known for her love of colorfully elegant scrap quilts, Edyta has this time, used her magic touch by combining a wide variety of blue and cream fabrics set against a creamy background. The resulting design is a stunning, but quieter scrap quilt that is sure to be a family favorite for generations to come. Each month we will provide photos, detailed directions for a portion of the quilt, and full-size patterns.

Beautiful work. Did you cut your own applique shapes to use for needle turn - and not use the ones that came with the kit?

Lalzy, the appliqué is beautiful. I don't know the answer to upside down photos but they still show your lovely work.

re my previous post:
Four times I've attempted this post and cancelled the previous three attempts. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to invert the photos so that they appear right side up. Never had this problem before, so don't know what is wrong this time. I've even gone into my own "Pictures" file and inverted the photos there, then posted them...…….they still appear on the TQS Forum upside down. Apologies for this problem.

A couple of photos re my progress. Needleturn applique is my first love, so I decided to use this method for all the branches, twigs, leaves, flowers and little circles. I still have the second side panel to applique, but at least the end is nigh, even if I am running behind. Right now, I'm in the process of crafting 32 more little circles, using Karen Kay Buckley's "Perfect Circles". This will probably be a day's work in itself, I should think. I had fond hopes of finishing "The Patchwork Barn" in 2018, but that doesn't seem possible any more. In addition, I am also valiantly attempting to complete a second 2018 BOM, heavily appliqued and hand-pieced, which I also wanted to complete by year's end. Oh well...…….on to Plan B.

Very pretty! I really like the spacer strips between the blocks. Was there enough extra fabric included in the kit to accomplish this or did you purchase extra?

Looks beautiful TTaylor. I'm a little behind, too many things going on right now. I might do top and bottom border too. Have you thought about how you are going to quilt it? Will you do an all-over design? Was wondering why yours look different than mine. I see you put a space between your blocks. Looks really nice.

PATCHWORK BARN QUILT 2018
CRYSTAL FARM FABRIC
A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO BARBARA BLACK AND THE FORUM AND ESPECIALLY BEING A MEMBER OF HER SUNDAY SEW N’ SEWS. I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED THIS QUILT AND IT IS PRETTY MUCH DONE. I MAY ADD A TOP AND BOTTOM BORDER. (It is not smoothed out on the design wall well)

Barn block is completed. Thank you, Barbara, for your invaluable assistance. The instructions on your website for the barn roof were easy to follow and very thorough. I added a few my own touches to the block such as a patchwork block for the barn roof and embroidery on the windows and door.
