Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month creative journey along America’s backcountry roads as we bring you "The Patchwork Barn Quilt," a fabulous quilt designed especially for TQS by Edyta Sitar. A spectacular medallion quilt featuring a barn nestled amongst rows of ‘crops’ (blocks). Edyta’s design inspiration was the result of observing the painted quilt blocks on the side of barns as she traveled across the country.

Known for her love of colorfully elegant scrap quilts, Edyta has this time, used her magic touch by combining a wide variety of blue and cream fabrics set against a creamy background. The resulting design is a stunning, but quieter scrap quilt that is sure to be a family favorite for generations to come. Each month we will provide photos, detailed directions for a portion of the quilt, and full-size patterns.

TOPIC: Block #1

There are 3 shapes, not 6 fabrics. Large and small squares, and rectangles. Each of the 3 are cut from light and dark fabrics--that is why there are 6 cutting steps. Follow the photo with one light and one dark fabric.

I can see how having the steps listed as "Print 1", "Print 2", etc. could be confusing. This appears to be the way most of the patterns will be written.

Just use the photo if you want an exact copy of the quilt, and/or if you are using the Kit. If you are using your own fabric, feel free to mix things up as much as you choose.

I am ready to cut my fabrics for block #1. I noticed in the instructions that it uses 6 different fabrics. When you look at the block in the photo of the quilt, it only uses two fabrics as does the photo of block #1 in the instructions. When Edyta was demonstrating the block in the most recent show, she used only two fabrics. Which is correct? I don't want to use six fabrics and then run out of fabrics later.
