Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month creative journey along America’s backcountry roads as we bring you "The Patchwork Barn Quilt," a fabulous quilt designed especially for TQS by Edyta Sitar. A spectacular medallion quilt featuring a barn nestled amongst rows of ‘crops’ (blocks). Edyta’s design inspiration was the result of observing the painted quilt blocks on the side of barns as she traveled across the country.

Known for her love of colorfully elegant scrap quilts, Edyta has this time, used her magic touch by combining a wide variety of blue and cream fabrics set against a creamy background. The resulting design is a stunning, but quieter scrap quilt that is sure to be a family favorite for generations to come. Each month we will provide photos, detailed directions for a portion of the quilt, and full-size patterns.

TOPIC: Slightly bigger?

Good suggestion. I also thought, since there are three blocks each month, I can do one blue, one green, and one blue and green. I have block one cut and ready to sew. I love starting a new project!

That sounds like a great plan. You might alternate rounds by color, one blue, one green, like a Trip Around the World plan.

Thanks, Barbara, looking forward to your suggestions in the Fall. Of course, I wil be watching Edyta’s Show this week when I have a moment to sit down. Right now, I am in the starching my fabric stage. I need to be planning for the fabric requirements in the beginning and can’t wait until fall, though I will try to be flexible. At this point I plan to make four of each block and maybe use two color ways for each set of four. My color scheme is blue and green. Lots of blue and green in my stash!

Linda, Edyta mentioned in show 2201 that it would be easy to enlarge this design by adding more rows of blocks. Certainly, adding applique' borders to the top and bottom would give you more length. In the Fall, I'll give some more ideas, with measurements, to make the quilt queen size.

Love this design, but I when I am making a quilt this large, I am looking for a way to make it queen-sized. Most of my quilts go to fundraisers and queen size (86x86)is the only size that gets people interested. I was thinking about doing the Appliqué border on all four sides, which will help the length and doing two more strips on either side of the center medallion. Anyone have any other suggestions? Looking forward to working on this!
