Join us on a TQS exclusive 12-month historic journey recreating the historic Rajah Quilt, sewn by women convicts on board the ship Rajah traveling from England on April 1841 to the penal colony of Van Diemen's Land-now known as Tasmania. The original quilt measured at approximately 128" x 128", but Lessa recreated it in quarter scale with fabrics from her stash. She used many different scraps, imagining that's what might have happened when the original quilt was being made. She followed the colors of the original quilt loosely, and tea dyed fabrics that didn't look old enough. You can obtain the same look with reproduction fabrics, or make a more contemporary-looking version like the one created for TQS.

Just finished all the piecing. The quilt will be added to the pile of quilts waiting to be quilted. I have the 2012 BOM quilt on the frame now waiting to be quilted.
Barb your quilt is beautiful

Thanks. I agree the overall quilting works just fine for this one. The pieces are so small, there are very few places any custom fancy quilting would show up.

Barbara, beautiful finish on your Rajah quilt, the quilting is such a great complement to the design. Congratulations!

congrats on completing. I've been a little intimidated about choosing a design for the quilting- glad to see how you did it. I was getting hung up thinking I "should" do more custom quilting in different sections (not my strength) and glad to see that the all over looks just fine. The piecing is the star of this quilt, not the quilting. I may just get brave and load it on the long arm and just go for it.
