TOPIC: Sew borders on?

Sew borders on? 10 Nov 2014 15:34 #122938

Pemela, I didn't actually paper piece the trees. I did them they way that was demonstrated on the video. I layed the fabric on top of the pattern, creased one fabric along the seam line marked on the pattern, then sewed them together along that crease (and trimmed the seam 1/4 inch away. Make sure you trace the pattern on the back to get a reverse pattern for the fusible application. I think paper piecing would work just as well though. It is just what you are most comfortable with.

Hi Linda - Did you paper piece the trees? This is the first TQS BOM that I have done and I have really enjoyed it, there has been so much help both with Julie's videos and the Forum and plenty of time to work on other projects. Did you hit any snags when you sewed the borders on?

Thanks, Rita and Pemela. I found the third right hand tree. I guess I missed it when I printed out the patterns. Once I get that appliqued, I will be up to date, and ready for December. Thanks for your help.

Hi Linda
As Rita said, there are 3 trees in the October pattern - the 3rd tree is alone on a separate sheet. I have almost finished my last border and then I'm going to attach them to the quilt. Pleased to know that you attached your borders without problems :) .
Best Wishes

Linda if you go back to the printouts for October there is a tree on page 20. Is that the one you are missing? There are 5 trees in the printout for that month. I hope that helps. You are well ahead!

I don't know the correct answer to this question, but I sewed my borders together. I appliqued everything except the end vines on the top border, and the first star on the left and right borders. I attached the top and bottom borders, then the side borders. After all was attached, I appliqued the top vines, then the stars. Everything came out great. My only problem is that there is a third tree missing on the right hand border. It was not included in the pattern so far. I am assuming it will show up in December.

I remember something in the video last month about how to leave a vine unstitched until all the borders were put on. Maybe that will give a hint.

I saw this topic the other day but didn't know the answer then and still don't. I have found the instructions for this month and last month so vague. I don't see why you wouldn't sew the top and bottom on once you have all the applique done but just leave the corners of the vines undone for the moment. I hope that helps or that somebody else pipes up if they know. :)

From the instructions, do you think we are supposed to sew the borders on to the body of the quilt? Kitty
