Well, I suppose I've answered my own questions. Saturday I came home with a new Bernina 880. I could not be more pleased. All the issues I had with the 830 (which even my dealer agreed It was a train wreck) are gone. I did have to turn off the top and bottom thread eyes though. I guess those sensors are just to sensitive. Not even worried about something telling me if there is something wrong with my thread. We who sew all know if we are running low on bobbin or especially top thread.
This machine does everything I've been missing. She is a great work horse and has passed every single thread test I put her through. I tried everything in my arsenal. The only thing I found was that when I put Superior Rainbow 40wt thread in the top I used a bottom line bobbin thread rather than a 50wt cotton thread. I had thought the 50wt cotton would grab the 40wt poly thread, but it didn't. So rather than change tension in that instance, I just changed to a lighter weight bobbin thread. Other than that, she takes anything I give her without question. EVEN metallic in the top.
So overall, I am very pleased to be back sewing on a Bernina, and truly thankful that I'm bless with a wonderful DH who allows me to trade machines like crazy!!!! I think I'll keep this one
