Thank you for explaining the translate function. I couldn't remember how to put it on and I need it for a Dutch blog. I guess it's called synchronicity when you get what you ask for before you ask :D

Isn't it great, Margo, that our computers are so fluent in so many languages?!! Just one thing missing: It doesn't do the dreaded housework yet. :(

Thanks for the link Norma. Interesting!!

If you visit the site with a Google Chrome browser, you can choose to have the text translated into English (or your computer's main language).

If the options box doesn't appear you can easily set it up. Click on the little wrench (upper right corner) select:

Wrench>Options>Under The Hood>Translate

Loechen, you did find it and what beautiful photos from the area. I have always loved the combination of art and production. Well, now it's most art. I have been there several times.

What I really fell in love with did not exist, when you were there. It's called The Geometric Gardens and here is a link for you

scroll down to no. 5

It's the complexity of the simplicity. The one element is a 11 m long wall. You start with one, then for every room you add one more. I remember the walls being 6 or 8 m tall and you can't see the overview, when you are walking in the rooms, but you soon begin to count and I always get touched by this brilliant idea. The architect was not concerned about planting in each room. There has been some suggestions, but they were never realized. I must mention that there are axes where you can look through several rooms.

Here on the Forum you can learn about many things and now you get the opportunity to read Danish too :D :D :D

Jill, ask my friends and family.... I'm infamous for going off on tangents. :)

I just wish I had taken photographs at the time. But in the 60s it was 'real' film and that was expensive. I could only afford two films for that wonderful time I spent in Herning.

That's the one, Norma. I'm sure they were making shirts. It was really interesting to see art and industrial production only separated by some panes of glass. My father's family originally comes from the area very close to the German/Danish border. So the family was either German or Danish, depending who had won the most recent war. I have always loved your country and your people!

Norma, where in Denmark are you? I spent a wonderful 3 weeks in and around Herning during a exchange as a 14-year-old. From living in Hamburg to semi-rural Denmark. That's when I learned how to ride a bike, feed the chickens, and spent some time at an amazing modern art gallery. The building was shaped like a donut. In the middle was a factory and offices and around the outside a round corridor with lots of then contemporary art. Great place!

Yep, you're right about the after sales service. I don't think mine was good enough, but fortunately I can find out things when I need to.

I live 1 hour's drive from Herning near the town Jelling. I think I know the building, you are talking about. Was it the place where they made shirts? There is a lot of art in and around Herning. The factory owner was very interested in art and did a lot for the community. Small world, don't you think?

Oh yes, but I guess we would never be ready for sewing if we had to design the machine first :D

It's a bit sad about the Pfaff. I chose the Bernina because I had heard that the quality of the Pfaff had come down. Now my dealer says, that it is going up again. What to believe?

I always find it very interesting how different our experiences with makes of sewing machines are. For the last few years I have always booked one or two of the three hour or whole day workshops at one of the big European shows. Because a lot of visitors come by train, coach or plane, several manufacturers provide the machines for the workshops. So I have worked on Husqvarna ones (nice and easy to use, no problems), Berninas (the same), and Pfaff (all sorts of little hic-ups, every time with more than one of the 16 brand-new machines in the classroom). And then there are friends who have been very frustrated with a new Husqvarna Sapphire (Full marks to the company. It was replaced and no problems with the new machine), and others who would rather divorce their husband than part with their Pfaff. So far everybody I know who has one seems to be very happy with their Bernina, except if they bought an 820 or 830. They seem to have had some teething problems. Wouldn't it be nice if each of us could design our own machine from scratch?!! :)
