Any luck with VISTA? 12 Sep 2008 08:18 #25913

I hate to think what I would do, since you can no longer buy Windows XP. I have Vista and you are right, I can't seem to get it working with my 440QEE and Editor Lite. They tell me it is the firewall. But everything I have tried and support has suggested hasn't worked.

Is Vista still a problem for the software if I just use the stick on a 40 or 730?

When I got the Bernina memory stick it had files on it for storing designs.

Where do I look on my disk to find, my designs?

Libbi...I just reread your post in embroiders corner. Didn't pickup that you over wrote the file. I'll check my program to see if there is a 630 machine design. Sorry for the mxi up. Nan F.

:) :) Libbi..Does DP5 have a Portfolio file listed under files? With Portfolio you can search through all of you designs to see where the design your looking for may be located. I only have Editor Plus5
I don't have a Bernina store within 100 miles and traveled to another state to purchase my machine so I am learning on my own by using the manual and the QSS lessons., so I'm not quite ready to upgrade to DP5. Still have lots more things to learn about the EP5 program, Good luck with getting your file. Nan F. in Massena NY

Libbi, Bernina has a Google group for the Quarterly Software Society. Maybe if you posted your question there, someone could help. I think Faith from Bernina is the site moderator. Here's the link: http://groups.google.com/group/QuarterlySoftwareSociety

My PC crashed months ago and I have not much back onto my PC. I did look and I don't have this file.

Did you check the Bernina back-up files on your PC? If you have not deleted them, maybe you could find it there?

Silly me, I thought that the 630, 640, & 730 with DP4 or 5 worked the same way. On my computer on the C: drive I have a folder named, My Designs. When I am using the software and "open" or "insert design," my selection automatically defaults to what is in the My Designs folder, usually the last subfolder I accessed. If I want to look some where else, I have to "Browse" and make another selection.

So you should have a "My Designs" folder on the hard drive or a designs folder on a memory stick. This is the tricky bit because I totally rearranged the designs that came with DP5 into subfolders that made more sense to me and renamed design files for easier access. I do not remember if a design named "Bernina machine" originally was in a folder named "Needle Arts." If not, then it becomes a matter of scrolling through designs to get a preview of the design. This is a problem since listing the .ART files in a folder with thumbnails only displays a series of Bernina butterflys.

Once the .ART file is found, it can be copied, moved, renamed, zipped, and attached to an email like any other file.

Hope this helps. And PS, I refused to have my laptop "upgraded" to Vista until the compatibility problems are solved.

Yes, I have the original disk. There is no folder that obviously contains the designs. They are probably in a data file that is loaded and configured into "My Designs" during installation of the original program. I saved my "My Designs" folder on removable storage in order to retain all my custom work and design collections, then ran the installation wizard again. I expected that the "My Designs" file would revert to the original, but it didn't. So I was hoping that someone would have the design in their folder and just attach a copy to an email to me. Much simpler and the same as buying a design commercially and having it sent as an attachment to an email. One design shouldn't require a zipped file though "Portfolio" will do that. Clear as mud? :?

I accidently overwrote my embroidery design of the Bernina 630/640 sewing computer while creating a label for my embroidered quilt. If anone with Bernina software, preferably, DP5, can check in their My Designs folder for this design, would you please email it to me? I am also going to post this same topic in the "Embroidery" forum. I don't know how I do these things sometimes! Libbi
