Don't you just love taking classes that really help in your jammies, or after work, or some other time when you don't have to go out to your LQS during work hours?

I'm late to this thread because I'm a relatively new member. Here's my two cents on V5.

To learn software, all versions, online, in fabulous lessons with videos (that work most of the time & may require a plug-in on your computer), go to http://www.berninausa.com/ then to learn it, then to software, then to the Quarterly Software Society, click through several clicks to their lessons. The lessons must be downloaded. They are .zip files because they are huge. I save them to a large memory stick to save my hard disk space. You can then work through the lessons at the same time side by side in your software. I have found that some of the video links are iffy, but email tech support & they will fix them. The videos just repeat the information that is in print.

The lessons are for all levels of software. The more complex your version, the further you can go in the lesson. There are lessons on digitizing (Dover has a special on vector files right now), cross stitch, applique, the whole kit'N'kaboodle. When I couldn't sew because of my stupid shoulder, I worked through the lessons on my laptop & now feel like I really know the capabilities of software. I haven't stitched-out a lot on my 730, but my brain generally knows how it should be done. Additionally, the lessons give you files to work on. These lessons are really wonderful. You may not be spending so much money at embroideryonline.com because you will know how to make and digitize your own designs, or modify the ones you already own in new and creative ways!

P.S. I love the Designer V5 software. I am blown away by how complex it is, yet how easy it is to use, after working through these lessons. The lessons at the LQS are very similar, but they're a long way away and don't offer lessons at 2 a.m. Furthermore, for those of us that flunk the classes first time around, we don't have to pay tuition to take the same course over and over and over and over.....at 2 a.m. in the morning (grin).
Happy Embroidering & Quilting! Susan

I am using EditorLite V5. I am thinking about upgrading.
But this issue comes from the EConPC portion.

730 Designer Plus, etc. 12 Sep 2008 09:22 #25926

Yes, check with your dealer. Having a 730 will not make any difference with your Vista and Ed Lite problems. You might ask the dealer if Ed Lite is considered V4 or V5. Will you upgrade software to Ed Plus or D Plus?

Sometimes anti-virus and firewall programs interfere with installation also. Can you call the OESD tech line and have them walk you through uninstalling and reinstalling Ed Lite? Some dealers will install (for a fee) the program and work with the problems that can come up. I did hire a tech person to do that for me. :?

Good luck.

Whoops. I just saw your most recent post. Don't have any other options other than to buy help. Sorry.

I have done all of that. And I am the computer geek in my family.
I have uninstalled everything will start from scratch over the weekend.

My first thought on this is to contact your dealer where you purchased your machine. Then it is to go to Berninausa.com and got to the help section - check under software support. Hope this is of some help if you haven't already tried these things. Or if you have someone that is really good with computer knowledge ( like my DH) and ask them to help. Nan

V5 software and Vista 12 Sep 2008 08:09 #25912

I am contemplating getting the 730. But wanted to know if anyone has had any trouble with the embroidery software and Vista.
I have the 440QEE with Editor Lite. Once I got my new computer with Vista, I have had nothing but trouble. None of the patches, tips from other users or even OESD technical support have been able to help.

Thanks for the compliments  . The designs were by Joanne Winn and were the focus of the course at Quilt University. Joanne provided detailed instructions on how to line up the designs. Believe me it was a challenge :!: but I learned ALOT! Now I feel ready to continue. The designs came in 3 parts to go from the left corner to the middle and then a mirror image to come from the right corner. The designs in the middle were 4 hoopings of the same design. I used my Bernina large oval hoop. I tried to combine 2 of the designs onto the megahoop but the hoop was just too narrow :( .

Part of the learning curve for the technique for me was to edit the design on the 630 while it was on the hoop. There were at least 2 registration marks where the designs join. It became a matter of adjusting the center needle position and then scrolling through the design using EDIT to determine if the stitches would meet at the registration. It is very hard to describe and I am no teacher. But I understand my embroidery system much much better now.

Libbi, the feathering on your quilt is fantastic! Did you digitize the feather or is that a purchased design? Which hoop did you use? How did you line it up so nicely when rehooping? Now that you've shown us the goodies you've gotta tell us how to do it. :)

I just thought that I would join in again. I just finish 2 courses with Joanne Winn at Quilt University. One was Digitized Quilting and the other Embroidery on Patchwork. While not specific to DP5, it did offer me projects to use these functions of an Embroidery Module for quilting. Yes, it is tough to line up an all overdesign but it was worth the challenge. It creates additional options for us.

It is also easy to quilt individual designs for all over quilting and fun. I have posted the quilts in my gallery.
