TOPIC: Problems with Foot #57?

23 Apr 2009 21:34 #34657

Do you mean on the inside of the foot & the fabric runs against the tape?

Yes, that's what I mean. It works for me...

I have also found that moving the needle one position to the right helps me get an accurate ¼” seam allowance with the #57 foot. My problem is that I don’t always remember to move the needle before I start sewing – talk about frustration! I finally came up with a solution. I cut a teeny piece of blue painter’s tape and stuck it to the guide. That does the trick – my seam allowances are accurate and I don’t have to adjust anything before I start sewing.

you can, as the machine may be clever, but it doesn't know what foot you have on it!!! lol However, sometimes will not let me move it, so you will have to try it and see. Hope that helps, but come to think of it, not much help at all!

Are you able to use the security function when you move the needle position?

That's how I do it, too. You can even use the straight stitch plate and move the needle over one position.

Dear FabricWhisperer, that is gooooooood information! No wonder we are supposed to take those classes. That is such an easy fix, we'll try it!

With my Bernina 440...to do a scant 1/4 with #57...I move the needle position over one. This is how I was taught in my Bernie class.

I just finished posting photos on my blog about that quarter inch foot. The biggest difference I see between the #37 and the #57 is the guide on the edge of the foot, which should aid in keeping things accurate.

I wanted to check your blog to see what you meant (about the foot!) but couldn't find out how to get to it!!!! doh! could only see latest blogs, no where to search for yours!!! Help?

I bought a straight stitch plate yesterday and can't wait to try it with my #37 foot. I also bought that new circular embroidery attachment--I'll let you know how I like it. I think there's a Bernina video of this attachment. As you can see, I'm doing more playing with my machine than accomplishing anything!

When I use the straight stitch plate, I put blue painters tape over the zigzag button on the machine to remind me "Don't do that!"
