Thanks for the suggestions. We're looking for high calorie foods, but not sweets which make her feel worse. She's not been able to eat much for awhile so we need to find more nutritious foods that she can eat. I tend to go for the already prepared foods but hope to find some recipes that have ingredients she can tolerate. I found a pancake recipe that uses peanut butter and bananas. I wonder how they will taste. For now we just need a bland diet. She doesn't like fish. Time to go shopping for ingredients.

Barb, that doll is cute, looks like you had fun together - always good,

Bev, love your hearts.

Annis, just skip wheat based products from the menu altogether and don't bother to try to find starchy alternatives to them, if as you say, they are too complicated for you to bake. For breakfast instead of toast or cereal serve eggs (scrambled/boiled/baked) with or without bacon or natural live yoghurt. For lunches cold meat or fish and salad, and for dinner meat and vegetables, and if you want a pudding follow it with fresh fruit or stewed fruit and cream. I use only butter, EV olive oil and lard/dripping from meat fats for cooking with, as being better for my body. Do Not worry about having too much fat in the diet - that advice from 1977 is bunkum. And likewise ignore 'calories intake' unless you can prove that the body uses '1 calorie of sugar the same way as it uses 1 calorie of butter' (which it doesn't - sugar is like gas for the car, whereas butter is like oil for the engine of the car, but can also be used instead of the gas). Hope your DD continues to improve and good luck with your bindings.

Sorry to hear your daughter is poorly Annis, I hope it is sorted out soon. Are you looking for gluten-free meals or treats? Remember meringues are gluten-free. One of my favourite deserts is Eton Mess - broken up meringue mixed with whipped cream and fresh fruits like blueberries, raspberries, strawberries or any other soft fruit in season. Also coconut macaroons are gluten free - but for some reason the men in my house particularly love those so they don't last long. You can also make a loaf of soda bread with buttermilk and Tritamil flour (I don't know if it is called the same thing in the USA, but its a gluten-free flour mix for bread and cakes.)

Love all the crafty ideas Barb. :cheer:

Hang in there, Annis. Hope your daughter is feeling better soon. When I want to cook for my gluten-free friends, it old fashion pot roast, either chicken or beef, with lots of carrots, onions and potatoes. I visit the gluten free section for breads and serve fruit for dessert. Good luck.

I like all of the little projects everyone is working on. Wish I had time to do more little projects. I have the binding finished on 3 of the 10 bed runners. If I make myself do 1 a day all 10 will be finished in a week. Then I can add 10 more projects to my list. That won't be hard as I have many more than that to do. I'm spending a lot of time helping my DD who is still very ill. Hope the doctors figure out what is wrong soon. I'm not the best at being a caretaker, but you do what you have to. Does anyone have any easy gluten free recipes? Most of the ones I'm finding require too many ingredients. I'm kind of out of practice when it comes to cooking.

Hi Terrie - Thanks re doll and teabags!
Tea bags made from tea bag filters. Filters are rectangle with a fold over flap. I traced the heart shape with a cookie cutter. There's a tutorial on "The Daily Blog" (2 February Valentines Day Gifts).
Bottle doll made from 2 liter soda bottle, 4" Styrofoam ball for head glue gunned to top of bottle. Flesh colored panty hose (one leg) pulled over head stretched to bottle bottom then tied and decorated/dressed.
Both fun projects!
Barb :-)

Barb, The dolls is adorable and so is your smiling Grandaughter.
Beverly, The hearts are very nice. The FMQ looks good to me. I like working on things seasonal.

Barb - super cute doll & teabags - what a neat idea! Where do you get the tea bag 'fabric' from, or what is it called? Also, what did you make the 'head' from - foam rubber or styrofoam?

Bev - love the hearts. I like Lois' and your idea of having some smallish project(s) to encourage yourself along the way to 'big' deadlines.
