Thanks everyone for your nice comments on the muggie.
Judy, Rita is correct. I love using my walking foot for quilting. I can do small amounts of FMQ, but prefer using the walking foot. I watched a show here on TQS with Jacquie Gerhing (hope I spelled that right!) and then took a class from her on Craftsy. Basically I just think about where I want the stitching to flow from and to and draw a line with chalk. I only do this if it is a larger quilt. On the muggie I just sewed from top to bottom at an angle. I love using the serpentine stitch on my Bernina. It's so easy and looks nice. I've also started using a wave like stitch also. I used these 2 stitches combined with straight stitching when I quilted the breeze and ocean on the commission quilt. The walking foot has measurements from 1/8" up to 5" inches or so, so I can follow the lines however wide I want it to be. On this muggie I had fun with a straight stitch on the side making squares and rectangles by going off the end of the muggie. I have done so much walking foot quilting that I can quilt most anything, even curves. I've learned to be able to start and stop on a stitch to make corners crisp. Here is a close up of "The Doors" (which will be hanging in the local quilt show this weekend!). All of this quilting was done with a walking foot.
Maybe someday I'll be good at FMQ like Nancy and others, but for now, my walking foot and I are BFFs! I guess it's like my being afraid of taking the training wheels off!
It's rainy and cool here, and I'm recovering from a cold. A good day to stay in and quilt!
Take care,
Geneva
