TOPIC: attaching a sleeve

Re: attaching a sleeve 21 Aug 2014 16:51 #120931

Hi, Kathy. Thanx for your comments. The quilt is not fluttery at the bottom. I am currently hand quilting the exterior border with a square hoop. I am actually using this as a bed quilt rather than a wallhanging. I would simply be putting it on display at the County Fair, and also if possible, perhaps at an art gallery (should someone like it enough!). Sounds like I should simply do a single sleeve across the top.

Is the quilt edge "fluttery" at the bottom? Adding a sleeve with a weight like a dowel at the bottom could keep the bottom more under control. A Queen size quilt is pretty heavy and gravity will pull everything downward. It would need a sturdy support at the top. If you're not hanging the quilt permanently in an area that has lots of nearby foot traffic, in my opinion a bottom sleeve would not be necessary.

Do you have more specifics about how you will be displaying the quilt?

I have not added a bottom sleeve to any of my quilts so far.
Kathy

Hi! I am just finishing up a queen sized quilt. I was wondering: should I attach a hanging sleeve at the bottom of the quilt in addition to a hanging sleeve at the top, since it is a large quilt? Is that a good idea?
