Nancy, it sometimes happens for me too. I have several types of pins and use the ones that fit my project best

As with most quilting choices, different pins work better for different people. For me, the silk pins are too thin and I have problems with them sliding out of the fabric when I am sewing long seams like sewing a border on a quilt. Part of this depends on the tightness of the weave of the fabric I'm using and the number of fabric layers the pin is going through. I have two sets of pins in my pincushion, a thicker set and a thinner set (but not as thin as the silk pins). The thin ones work well at seam intersections where I have extra layers of fabric and for batiks. The thicker pins are needed for commercial cottons. But even with the thicker pins, I often poke them through the fabric an extra time so that they will stay in until I get to them. I've never heard of anyone else having this problem so this may just be something about the way I sew or something.

I love the silk pins and they are the only ones I use, and they are worth the extra cost, but as suggested check out on-line.

Funny, I have both the long and the short pins, but I like the short ones most. I just bought a new packet because mine are disappearing. The glass heads on the short ones have a very light color and they are hard to find when you drop them, but mainly I loose them because they bend so easily and when it's too much I throw them away.

Alex as many including me using those pins from clover silk pins glass heads, you can find them in amazon.com

they are expensive but they worth the price.

why - i like they are long and thin - there are pins that are the same thickness - very fine or ultra fine they call it but
they are shorter, it can works as well.

only thing that you need to remember they are in a way geting funny shapes if you force them. dont use them on design wall.

buy one package and i am sure if you will take care of them as they will take care of you, you will need only one package for life time. :)

* i use different pins for different goals so you can find it very useful as well.

good luck

Saw Alex on a show and she mentioned silk pins and they were expensive. Does anyone know what she uses? Are they really better than other pins?
