They are fabric pens. Markers with fabric dye in them. One end is like a marker and the other a paint brush. You can get the dyes in little bottles with applicators that are sort of like felt tips too. I haven't used them.

Thank you for the replies - what great inspiration you have given me! I'm enjoying that waiting period while my FedEx shipment is in transit and I am thinking up a million different uses for my new art supplies!

The Tuseniko Pens are new to me - are these fabric pens or something along the lines of Micron Pigma pens? I will have to look them up...

Thank you!

When I used mine I put the color where I wanted it and used a stiff paint brush with fabric medium to blend the colors--I then used a hair dryer to dry the area so it would not bleed into another area. WARNING--do not blow dry the area until you have the amount of color you want. Others may have a better way of using these items but this is what I did.

Valerie, On that same link Susan posted you can see my zinnias. Can't remember if I used intense pencils or tuseneko pens. I use both and I do know that the whole thing started out as a line drawing on the cream moda fabric.

A link to my contribution. I have never been able to get "brilliant' color. Intense, yes.

Dharmatrading or Dick Blick made have videos as well.

I did find a blog tutorial by Love Bug Studios and that is where I learned about the Liquitex Textile Medium. I know Folk Art Paints/Plaid Paints make a textile medium that is very inexpensive but I was going for the free shipping from Amazon. LOL I believe she uses it over top of the pencil coloring to blend and fix.

Carla Barrett also shared a tutorial on her blog - and she uses a diluted solution under the pigment, then blends again over the pigment.

As we quilters like to experiment and play I'm curious if anyone else has different techniques to share. I think that I want the vibrant look and not the water color look - though I do like the versatility and I can see some projects in the future where the water color look would be fun.

It's always a little like Christmas waiting for your goody to come in the mail! I cannot wait to play!!!

I've used them with water not fabric medium. I was going for more of a water color look. I am interested in the info that shows up here. I'd like to do more experimenting.

Inktense Pencils and Fabric Medium 30 Oct 2014 09:44 #122374

I hope I am posting this in the right place!

I just ordered a set of 24 Inktense pencils and a small container of Liquitex Fabric Medium...I have never used either before but I have done some experimenting with fabric and paint in the past. I'm curious - how do you apply yours and in what order? Do I need to have fabric medium on the the fabric before I start coloring in with the pencils? Or can I apply the pencil color and blend with the fabric medium over top? I'm going for vibrant color rather than the water color look...any tips from those of you more experienced than I would be appreciated! :)
