If you are in business to sell the quilts once they've shown in the gallery, homeowners may not cover them. Most quilters I know that are in business have some kind of business insurance.

Since your homeowner's insurance covers quilts as if they were blankets, I have gotten most of my quilts appraised and then have them covered on a personal articles policy. The personal articles policy covers other things like jewelry and art. Talk to your insurance agent.

I think the best person to talk to is the agent you have your homeowner's and/or auto insurance with. I think what you might need is liability insurance.
Hope this helps,

insurance question 12 Feb 2010 06:59 #43435

I apologize if this post is in the wrong forum - can't really locate the "right" one! I am fairly new to the art quilting competition/exhibit scene, and have an application that asks me for the name of my insurer. This makes me think that maybe I ought to have one?! Maybe they're used to working with people whose art is coveted and who actually sell their work, but as I said, I'm new. Dare I say "undiscovered"? LOL. If any of you have experience in this area, I'd really like to know how to insure my work without spending a ton of money because, as I said, I've never even sold anything and don't have any money!!
