Here are my Golden Gate blocks--I'm always a bit surprised when I add the black background fabric to one of the blocks how it looks so bold next to the other block. I don't often do 6" squares so this has been a great chance think smaller. .

I like your block colors and print! Sunny and I have discussed vie email many times about having a design wall as neither of us have wall space for one. I finally decided it was time to make a wall that I can lean against 2 tables in my basement which has worked out nicely for its purpose. I used foam board from Lowes and cotton batting. I have a small one (18" x 18") that I keep by my sewing machine so that I can put my block pieces on it to help me sew them in the right order. It has also been useful to put my Kaffe print on it to pick out the colors for my block. Thanks to everyone for sharing your blocks and lay outs and to Alex and John for their time and effort in doing the videos and making beautiful quilts start to pop up all over the place!

On Aug. 10th SMaltarp listed the 10 blocks so far because people were having problems finding the videos. I thought a picture of the
block to go along with the name might help. Not sure if this screenshot idea will work, but hopes it helps some of the people that are
jumping into this fun project late. HelenW

Rebecca christie--your quilt blocks are really pretty next to the Kaffe prints that inspired them! This is a great place to get inspired and create!

I'm having a problem with the instructions that I heard and saw in the video for the 4-pinwheel block. After each pinwheel is assembled, I watched Alex square one of them up to 2 inches square. But two stars across is suppose to be a normal unfinished block size of 6.5 inches. There must be something I missed. How can that be correct? I'm thinking that each one be 3.5 inches unfinished; 6 inches finished. Help please, Barbara. Thanks.

The four HST that make up one pinwheel are each squared to 2”—that is 1.5” finished. You are correct—when four HST are joined into a pinwheel, it should be 3.5” unfinished. Four pinwheels that size become a 6.5” unfinished Double Pinwheel block.

I’m loving the blended look over the white. I just started on this and I’m thinking of going the blended route also. Just beautiful to me.

I'm in the same boat as far as a design wall - no walls to put one up! I do have a piece of fabric I had ordered from Shoppersrule that could be used if I could find a place to termporarily hang it - I am tired of crawling around on the floor or looking at a bed! I have a friend who made one out of three hinged pieces of foam board on a frame - she can fold it up and put it under a bed or in a closet when not in use. I'll have to look into something like this. Love your color choices to complement the Kaffe fabrics! I was finally successful in reducing the size given for a 9-inch block to an 8-inch block, and it worked! Here is my Golden Gate block.

Both the star belly using the shoo fly block, and the Star of Hope... love them. Learning so much about color, and precision. Really great to slow down and be more careful about cutting and sewing and pressing - all of it. I also decided to line up the blocks with the Kaffe fabric to see how they were looking and what I may need to work on for balance and color. I also need to get some sort of design wall up. I've always used the bed in the guest room, or the floor. My sewing room which I love, is in the attick and has sloping ceilings so I only have half walls... no walls to put up a larger design wall. working on ideas though, I have always wanted one and just kept putting it off.
