Join us in Episode 901 for a true "multimedia experience" as quilt artist, teacher, and pattern designer Susan Brubaker Knapp unites with the TQS gang on location at the home of Hugh and Dee Dee Eaton in Monument, CO. Susan shares some of her traditional and art pieces in a wonderful show and tell, and then - after a brief "musical interlude" (accompanied by Ricky) - she gets down to business, demonstrating her method for making consistently sized vines and her techniques for needle-turn appliqué.

She also shows how she designs and creates a quilt using an original photo and her computer. (Bonus: the demo pattern will be available on the TQS website for download.) We wrap up with a visit to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, CO, which opened its doors in 1990 as a showcase for Colorado quilts and quilting.

3951_rachel.jpgHopping around on a Shop Hop is always good fun, but it's even more fun when something expected happens...like walking into a shop and seeing a wonderful exhibition by Rachel Clark.

SueDee's Quilting, Knitting and More in Scotts Valley, CA has this exhibition up in their shop. (Be sure to contact them if you are planning to stop by to make sure the items are still on exhibit.)

To learn more about Rachel, watch Episode 703: Tools of the Trade with Rachel Clark and Renae Haddadin.

Have you ever been caught off guard by the unexpected?

On this July 4 we brought back the puzzle for American Life.  Okay it's 1930 not 2011, but it's a fun quilt.  How fast can you do this?

In 1930, Mrs. Cecil White created a quilt with vignettes of American Life.  Her style seems similar to cartoon art.  She included everything from a shoe shine parlor to an elopement and a trolley ride.  The quilt is 77" x 66" and made mostly of cotton fabric.  It is hand appliqued and quilted.  Not much is known about Mrs. Cecil White but anyone can enjoy her look into everyday life in 1930.
