There's going to be a new exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, called. Sponsored by C & T Publishing, Scrap ART will showcase historical quilts from both the Museum's and also private collections.  It highlights the origins of "scrap" quilts and takes a look at their modern-day descdents.

Here's what the Museum has to say about the exhibit, "Just as quilters have long been inspired to make beautiful pieces from available scraps, the throwaways of daily life have inspired a new generation of ecologically-mindd artists to combine creative reuse with old-fashioned thrift in works using material as varied as books, jeans, zippers, plastic, buttons, and teabags. Scrap ART celebrates the reinterpretation of materials by artists both historical and contmporary in works that reflect the cultures and values of their makers."

The Opening Reception will be held Sunday, August 21, 2-4 and is free with Museum admission.

The exhibit will run August 16 - October 16, 2011

We were all surprised by what can be done on a long arm.  Applique? Clothing?

The taping is off to a great start.  Today we had a quilter who works with computers and one that works with Rub a Dubs.

Rob was asked to put his TQS Portrait Quilt Class on DVD.  It will be great in a library and wonderful for those with slower internet.

He only made a few and it's a great price of $14.95 with all 10 lessons and some bonus material.

Today we'd like to know, how many times have you repeated a quilt pattern, not just used a block once or twice, but actually made the same quilt (different fabrics) more than once?  Why did you choose that pattern, was it simple, did you like the way it highlighted the fabric?  Let us know, what patterns were so good, you had to make them again?

Have you seen the latest project on the C&T Publishing Blog? It's a cute little sewing and needlework book from Sue Astroth author of Make Spectacular Books.

Sue uses scraps, button cards, and ribbon, fiber, and floss to make the design her own.

Head on over to the blog and see if you can't come up with your own design. They would make great gifts for your quilting friends.
